Presented in its original factory colour of Chariot Red, this 1960 MG A 1600 Coupé is an exceptionally well sorted example of the increasingly sought after fixed head MGA. The paintwork is of a particularly high standard, with an excellent depth of shine that perfectly complements the elegant lines of the Coupé body. The car presents beautifully throughout, sitting correctly on Michelin tyres with a well appointed black leather interior that offers a classic and understated finish.
This later Series I example benefits from the improved 1, 588cc engine and is accompanied by a comprehensive history file dating back to the 1980s. Included within the file is the original green logbook, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate confirming its factory specification and original Chariot Red finish, along with an extensive collection of invoices, MOT certificates, tax discs and historic documentation evidencing long term enthusiast ownership and continual maintenance.
In recent years the car has benefitted from significant mechanical investment including a full engine rebuild by Skipton Performance Engineering, incorporating balancing and unleaded conversion for improved refinement and reliability. Further enhancements include a radiator overhaul and the addition of the highly recognised and desirable desirable 'Ford Type nine' 5 speed gearbox conversion. On the road the car drives exactly as an MGA should, responsive and characterful, with the 5 speed gearbox greatly enhancing cruising ability and making longer distance touring a far more relaxed and enjoyable experience.
Additional maintenance recorded within the history file includes carburettor rebuilding, rolling road tuning, suspension work and brake servicing, resulting in a car that feels exceptionally well developed and properly maintained.
As a historic vehicle the MGA benefits from free road tax and MOT exemption, however for the next owner’s peace of mind the car will be supplied with a full 12 months MOT.
