Motodrome offer this heavily patinated 1960 Land Rover Series II 88in 2. 25 diesel softtop, in Pastel Green with tan Exmoor Trim hood.
Whilst it may look slightly disreputable (which is just the way we like them) it’s heavily-patinated body disguises a vehicle that’s been comprehensively refurbished structurally and mechanically over the last 3 years.
Bought by the last owner ( a committed Land Rover enthusiast) as a stalled restoration project, over the past 3 years he's carried out the following
• New rear crossmember and chassis cleaned and refurbished
• brakes rebuilt with new wheel cylinders, master cylinder, and lines
• new dampers
• recon steering box
• new 600x16 tyres
• engine rebuilt with new bearings, rings, recon head with new guides and valves, and heater plugs.
• Droitwich diesel rebuilt injection pump and injectors
• new engine mounts
• recored original radiator
• altermator conversion with new alternator
• new exhaust
• new autosparks wiring harness
• new headlamps
• fully reconditioned gearbox and transfer box, and new clutch
However he rebuilt it to work on his smallholding, so was only interested in reliability etc and wasn’t that bothered about road legality. Hence when it came to us it disappeared into our workshop for more work including
• replacement instruments (none of the originals worked and couldn’t be saved, but they’ve been replaced with good used ones)
• new speedo cable
• new voltage stabiliser
• new fuel tank sender
• new wiper motor
• new horn
• new internal gaiters
• new door rubbers
• plus wiring-in of all the electrics above, and a general check over.
It's an original UK-supplied RHD Series II.
The 2. 25 diesel engine has been properly set up as part of the rebuild and hence starts readily, hot or cold, and it chugs along with alacrity.
The odometer reading of 97000 should be disregarded, as the speedo has been replaced as part of the above work.
