Here is my Tin-Lizzy.
1960 series 2 (not 2a) Landrover.
If your looking for Patina, then your in the right place. She is drooling in it. The pictures say it all in that respect.
Owned by myself just shy of 20 years (most of my adult life) and known history for 20 years prior to that.
She has been my winter toy, daily drive for a few years over my ownership, holiday trip transport and general work horse for all kinds of tasks.
She’s done me proud for many years where the deal was if I looked after her, she would look after me. But a slow change in lifestyle over the last few years means she hasn’t been used much at all and I don’t think it fair for her to sit being ignored.
In general she’s a proper series 2 rather than the later 2a. With all the “2” specific parts fitted where they should be other than I believe the tailgate and the horn button.
Short wheel base on lwb rims and 750-16 tyres which are now showing some cracks inside the tread.
Currently fitted with a nicely running rover v8 3. 5 from an early Range Rover. Although for the purists, luckily enough I have kept her original 2. 25 petrol engine with the “in between” era water pump, early manifold etc. the reason the engine came out was that it was burning more oil than petrol in 2010. so it will definitely need at least a light rebuild. If you wanted to revert back to original. Gearbox is standard with a nice quiet Fairy overdrive too! Along with a finned alloy transfer case cooler from synchro gearboxes.
Currently as pictured she is a bikini soft top canvas, which although in good condition in general is showing signs of age with a few holes.
She also comes with the rest of the brackety and hoops to fit a full canvas if you wish (doesn’t come with a full canvas)…
Or just to give you the full house she also comes with a full early spec hard top, with the sought after complete working cat flap rear hatch!.
In general she is very solid! The front dumb irons are original!! And still show off her original chassis number! So with the original engine sorted as well she could be a very good candidate for US export.
Bulkhead outriggers were replaced by me around 2012 along with the bulkhead footwells and “a” posts which are still solid.
The back end of the chassis would realistically benefit from at least a rear x member and some attention is required welding wise around the centre x member. The current rear x member has been fabricated using a very heavy piece of girder! It’s solid and has been used to attach many a tow rope!! But around the spring hangers could do with at least patching.

Dented show stopper! Oozing history and character. On the galv above the drivers windscreen I can only think that previous owners have added thier details in pencil over the years, she’s even had a replacement part panel on the rear tub made from steel instead of alloy. Very well made and even now still solid, adds to the overall look of a book with a 1000 stories..
Now here’s, the extra bonus! other landies have come and gone through my hands, but I’ve always held on to this one. At one point I had 4 of my own at the same time. With this you sort of seem to “Hoard” spare parts. And I had the space to do it in style.
There is enough parts to easily fill up a large van! Difficult to photograph or describe, but there are boxes and boxes of parts from light switches, new brake cylinders, heater vents, stub axles all the way up to complete windscreen, doors, at least two axle casings, wheels and lots in between.
All to be sold with Lizzy.
I don’t want to sell her as I know when I get to retirement I will have another, but that’s a long time away and I don’t want her just sitting there.
I’m open to offers, but it’s got to be close.
Lizzy sticks to the road around corners better than any other landrover I’ve had or driven. The v8 makes it even more fun (but not silly). The overdrive means she can cruise easily.
She’s great fun and warm in the snow in winter and she’s super cool in the summer with the canvas rolled up.
