Introduced at the 2003 Geneva Salon, the Continental GT represented a landmark model for Bentley, becoming the most technologically advanced and internationally significant car the marque had produced in generations. Designed under the direction of Dirk Van Braeckel, the striking 2+2-seater coupe successfully combined modern performance, luxury and everyday usability in a manner few grand tourers of the period could rival. At its heart was Bentley’s first all-new engine since 1959, a twin-turbocharged 5998cc W12 paired with a six-speed ZF Tiptronic automatic transmission and Torsen-based permanent four-wheel drive. Producing 552bhp and 479lbft of torque, the Continental GT was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in just 4. 8 seconds and a top speed of 198mph, while sophisticated independent suspension and ventilated ABS disc brakes ensured it remained an accomplished long-distance express.
Building upon the enormous success of the coupe, Bentley unveiled the Continental GTC in 2006, bringing open-top motoring to the Continental range for the first time. Retaining the same potent W12 powerplant and luxurious handcrafted interior, the GTC introduced an elegant electrically operated fabric hood, allowing occupants to enjoy the car’s remarkable performance and refinement with the roof lowered. Despite the additional structural reinforcements required of a convertible, the GTC remained an immensely capable grand tourer, seamlessly blending pace, comfort and exclusivity. Widely credited with further broadening Bentley’s global appeal during the marque’s modern resurgence, the Continental GTC has since established itself as one of the defining luxury convertibles of the early 21st century.
First registered in July 2007 and specified in the very rare ‘Chestnut Metallic’ with contrasting Caramel hide, Caramel and black two-tone steering wheel, black dashboard and black hood, this particular Bentley Continental GTC was well specified from factory with a number of optional extras, including 20’’ 7-Spoke Alloy Sports Wheels, Dark Stained Burr Walnut trim, Two-tone, hide-trimmed multi-function steering wheel, Power boot / trunk opening and closing, TV tuner to infotainment system and more.
Notable standard factory options also included Electronic Cruise Control, electronically adjustable front seats with memory and heating, dual-zone electronic climate control, electronically adjustable dampers, twin bi-Xenon headlamps with integrated washer jets, colour-keyed electronically adjustable door mirrors with heating, power folding and memory function, keyless entry and keyless ignition, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, and an infotainment system incorporating DVD Satellite Navigation and hi-fi system with 6xCD changer among others.
Remarkably, this well-specified GTC has spent its entire life in single family ownership, residing alongside notable classics including a Bentley 6½ / 8-Litre Tourer to Speed Six specification. Needless to say, it has been well maintained and well enjoyed throughout.
Showing a useable 90, 054 miles on the odometer at the time of photography, the current MOT is valid until 23 June this year. Please note a fresh MOT can be supplied by separate negotiation. Still retaining its factory wind deflector and recently benefiting from all four wheels being professionally powder-coated, this GTC sits on four matching Pirelli P-Zero tyres and has also, just this week, benefited from a complete detail including a full ceramic coating, ready for its new owner to enjoy.
Accompanied by a comprehensive history file containing the Bentley service book, a large collection of previous invoices and MOT certificates, together with the current V5C document, this presents an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-used yet well-maintained example of this ever-popular grand tourer.
