1949 Riley RMA Saloon
There are few surviving post-war British saloons that retain such remarkable originality and provenance as this delightful Riley RMA.
Supplied new in 1949, this charming example has had an incredibly low four former keepers in its 77 year life, with the previous owner enjoying the car for an impressive 21 years before passing it to its current custodian.
Wonderfully original throughout, this Riley has escaped the over-restoration that so often diminishes the character of these cars. The paintwork carries a gentle, honest patina with only minor age-related imperfections, complementing its authenticity perfectly.
The bodywork is exceptionally solid, while the underside is equally impressive, testament to careful ownership and sympathetic maintenance over many decades.
The interior is quite exceptional. So many cars of this era are let down by tired trim, yet this Riley remains beautifully preserved, with outstanding seats, an excellent headlining and a wonderfully original cabin that is a pleasure to spend time in.
Mechanically, it is every bit as charming as one would hope. The current owner recently completed a 200 mile round trip without issue, demonstrating just how usable and dependable this Riley remains today. Recent expenditure includes a new clutch, together with significant maintenance work to ensure the car continues to drive exactly as it should.
The chrome work is beautifully presented, the driving experience is wonderfully engaging, and the overall impression is of an exceptionally honest, unspoilt Riley that has been cherished rather than restored.
