We have never seen a Morris Minor with a history quite like this. 793 YPU was supplied new on the 9th of September 1961 by Aggiss & Sons (Upminster) Ltd, Chesnuts Garage, Upminster Essex to a Mr Holton who owned the car for over 40 years. The Morris comes with a copy of its original buff logbook, its original Morris warranty document and an incredibly impressive file to include almost 50 supplying dealership service reports right throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Invoices from the supplying dealer continue into the 1980s but further to this, the car comes with the first owners driving license booklet and three fascinating mileage logbooks recording all the cars trips throughout the 1960s and 1970s. From these books we can see the first owner used the car daily, likely for business purposes as his weeks would be spent in different counties visiting various towns. It would seem Sussex, Hampshire, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall were regularly visited, and many trips recorded up in Cumbria. We first supplied this car in 2024 to a gentleman who was visiting the area of our showroom. Upon completing the deal, he drove the car away to Derby that very day, testament to the meticulous maintenance of the carful owner before.
During the 1990's and 2000's mileage most certainly slowed down, and a steady flow of invoices are on file for upkeep and maintenance throughout the 2000's. The first owner was even using his local Ford main dealership for upkeep. The Morris has had a significant amount of mechanical restoration work and in more recent years has been fully re-painted. The Morris bodywork is structurally excellent; it has had four new steel wings and the underside of the vehicle excellent. The paintwork has a lovely finish to it in general although improvements could be made around the shut lines and the roof; the upholstery has clearly had improvement work carried out yet retains a very original feel to it with genuine patina. The owner whom drove the car down to our showroom for the first time in 2024, had an exemplary and uneventful 55-mile journey from Saltburn-on-Sea. Throughout his 4-year ownership, he continued the theme of fastidious maintenance ensuring the Morris was kept ready-to-go. Receipts are on file for regular servicing, poly bushed suspension, new leaf springs, new water pump, bottom end gasket set, wheel cylinders, new steering rack, diff pinion oil seal, propshaft universal joint, electric fuel pump and carb rebuild.
On the road the Morris performs superbly and testament to this was it last owner driving the car down to us from Easington, Saltburn by the Sea. Over the 55-mile trip across the North Yorkshire moors the Morris performed faultlessly and on our initial road test on arrival we can report a beautiful quiet and sweet running engine with perfect oil pressure, a nice gearbox with good syncro's and with its renewed steering and suspension the Morris handles and holds the road superbly. 793 YPU is a really special car, its history file is somewhat unrepeatable and we hope its next owner continues to maintain and look after this Morris as well as its owners have over the past 60 years plus as its quite clear this Morris has always been kept on the button, reliable and ready to go with no expense spared.
