Beschreibung
Finished in Vauxhall Sapphire Blue metallic with black velour interior. Extremely rare one owner car from new.
The car was built in Germany and first registered 19th December 1980. The original bill of sale shows a purchase price of £4377. 21, with the supplying main dealer’s name appearing on the number plates and matching that on the sales invoice. Every MOT certificate is present, as are the owners and workshop manuals, plus all receipts for service parts. The engine has never been out of the car and the gearbox is an early 4-speed variant. The correct mileage is 154039.
An MOT certificate was declined on 26th August 2011 due to the following reasons:
1. Nearside front brake hose bulging under pressure.
2. Nearside front coil spring fractured.
3. Nearside front suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded.
4. Nearside rear suspension spring mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded.
I don’t consider the welding required is particularly difficult or excessive. Interestingly, the MOT man said that with some TLC it would be a great car!
The above repairs will gain an MOT Certificate, but further expenditure and work is required. Namely: 4 new tyres and new gearbox bearings. Cosmetically, the car could benefit from a complete respray. The oil has always been regularly renewed and when last used the engine revved and pulled very freely. The sills have been waxoyled and are in generally good condition. A GM battery, alternator, steering rack gaiters and CV boots have all been renewed, and the spare tyre has seen very little use. The car is completely standard except for the fitting of a stainless steel exhaust and Cobra immobiliser. Insurance has been on a classic car, strictly limited mileage policy.
I never thought that I would part with this vehicle and it gives me no pleasure to be writing this, but sometimes one has to be practical. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time or facilities to bring the car back to a standard I would like, and I really, really don't want to call in the scrapper – I will not consider breakage. This would be an excellent rolling restoration project and could be used as an eminently practical everyday classic. It is currently SORN and the new owner will have to arrange his or her own transportation. I consider £350 is a reasonable asking price given its unique history. It is clearly advertised as a project car not a motorway grand tourer, so no timewasters please.
