Description
WELL, it's about time the good old Vauxhall Cavalier Mark 2 became a modern-day classic. That's if you can still manage to find a good one and one that has not been driven into the ground after being flogged to death as a company car. I had the model back in the day at brand new and always much preferred it to the Ford Sierra which was always the main rival. Sprightly, fwd family saloon which was a joy to drive.
However, find one like this and you have to stop and breath properly. Why? Because it's 1980s survivors like this that simply take your breath away!
Here is a wonderful example of a late Mark 2. A 1988 model and a 1600L hatchback. Finished in Nordic Blue - a regular GM colour of the era - it is in nothing short of superb all round order. Having covered just 20, 000 miles from new, this Cavalier remained with its initial owner for 30 years covering the majority of its current mileage. It has only had one other owner and he acquired it eight years ago, managing to put on something in the order of just 2, 000 miles. It had covered 18, 000 when it changed hands.
Seeing is believing. Never welded and now with a brand new MoT, it's a delightful driver. She is 5-speed and has power steering. In just four years time, she will roll over into being both MoT and tax exempt.
The interior looks as though it has never been sat in. And I think my close-up photos can manage to tell the bulk of the story. Don't be slow to react to this gem if it's an 80s classic you are after!
