I have owned this car since the early seventies. It has been the subject of very long term rebuild which has now stalled! I would like to sell to a good home as I no longer have time in my life to complete.
The photos were taken a few years ago but the car has been garaged since then. Work done on the car over the years includes:-
Body / Chassis - Chassis frame stripped back to steel and painted in primer & Hammerite. All gel coat cracks have been opened up and filled. The car has many new brackets made e. g. bonnet hinges, brake servo bracket, door window frame stabilisers etc. The door hinges have been refurbished and fitted with grease points.
The body surface was primed with a special fibreglass primer that enabled the achievement of an excellent finish with no bubbling. This appears to have been quite successful on all panels except the side doors. The roof also has some slight bubbling. Car was beautifully finished in Jaguar Indigo Blue.
The car is complete with all four alloy bumpers which have been refurbished and provided with new securing studs. The trim strips that cover the air vents on the sides of the engine bay and those that fit on the doors have been remade in steel and chromed, although originals are mostly available.
Trim – All the trim has been remanufactured. Cardboard door cards and other trim items have been remade on a sheet aluminium panels for door cards, and gap fill panels. Headlining has been remade. Dash panel is still in original wood, although this would benefit from refinishing or perhaps replacement with a leather cloth trimmed version. Seats require re-trimming and there is no carpet as yet. Rear deck has a carefully engineered wooden cover with lift out panel for differential access and a hold down for the spare wheel, so it doesn’t slide around. New door aperture seals are, I think, included in the package.
Car has a new heater and has 3 screen air vents not 2 to overcome the well known S1 misting up of the centre of the screen. New heater knobs and Bowden cable controls are included.
Glass – car includes the original Perspex rear screen (blue tinted) and glass side windows / alloy frames with manual winders. The front screen needs to be replaced. All new screen rubbers are available.
Electrics – Car has been completely rewired. Electric systems include new fan motor, Lumenition electronic ignition, refurbished starter and dynamo. I have a suspicion that ignition switch may need replacing as ignition connection in switch seems a bit variable.
The car is fitted with new (30 years ago) Pioneer speakers in the ally trim panel, but no radio is available (or I haven’t found it yet).
Engine – 1600cc Ford crossflow has been re-bored with all new shells, chains etc. Vulcan head with new valves, seals, springs, rockers, steel rocker supports etc. Engine starts well, has good oil pressure and no discernable exhaust smoke. All cooling pipes replaced and a new header tank made. Drive line has all new universal joints and new oil seals.
Suspension - Spax adjustable dampers, new bearings, bolts, track rod ends etc. In particular, the front uprights have been replaced with tuftrided versions for improved strength & longevity. The top ball joints, CQ207 as I recall have been replaced. All wheel bearings & seals replaced. All suspension and driveline fixings have been replaced with zinc plate passivated bolts and new Nyloc nuts. All suspension bushes are replaced with TVR originals. Main suspension parts were blasted and powder coated, but I note there are small rust spots appearing again. Brakes have new pads and seals. Wheels are TVR finned alloys, brand new but would need repainting. Tyres have good tread but I suspect are past sell by date for any serious use. There is also a spare TVR alloy wheel but this has no tyre. The car was bought on TR4 steel wheels but these are no longer available. Much of this work was carried out several years ago so may need minor fettling to re-create the new car “feel”.
What is missing – These are the things that will not be supplied. I have tried to make an exhaustive list and am fairly confident that, aside from the items mentioned below, only minor fixings would be required to complete the car. Car does not have a front windscreen, which I recall is a Mk 1 Consul screen. Also Battery will not be supplied. Cover plate for brake box with Vin number plate is missing but I am still looking for this. In any case I will get duplicate registration document from DVLA and pass to new owner.
Buying process – When I first advertised this car I was overwhelmed by the response and therefore decided to re-price it and adopt a different approach to the buying process.
In order to try to make the process as fair as possible to all of us, I would like you to make an appointment with me to view the car if possible and then submit a bid to me by midnight on 20th July 2013. I would strongly prefer that everyone who makes a bid has seen the car so that you will all have firm knowledge of what you might buy. Bids should be based on a minimum of £7, 000. As is normal, I will require cleared funds into my account, or cash, before I release the car.
If you want to get in touch, I suggest you email with a phone number. I will then respond by mail or phone.
