introduction:
the e24 is the first generation of all 6 series coupe's produced from 1978 to 1979. often referred to as the "sharknose" generation these e24 coupe's are currently enjoying a huge resurgence in value due to being so undervalued for such a long period of time. They have long been a relative bargain of the classic car world with a select few realising the true value of these special big coupes powered by the wonderful m30 straight six engine. They are now starting to become noticed due to many high profile sales at recent classic car auctions where average examples are changing hands for £12000 to £20000 with the very best m cars commanding £100000. the market now fast switching on to these special cars.
this particular vehicle is the last of the line 1989 registered "highline" model benefitting from a fantastic specification. This particular car comes with factory air conditioning, sport seats, electric memory seats, electric sunroof, switchable automatic transmission, extended leather interior package to include dash, door cards and transmission tunnel, bbs cross spoke alloy wheels and a bodykit comprising of larger bumpers front and rear and a larger boot spoiler.
service history:
this vehicle has been in the hands of the last custodian now for the last 8 years, in this time and prior to his ownership it has been very lwell maintained mechanically, the service book boasts a total of 34 stamps (23 of which are with the supplying dealer - hunters ipswich) . every bodywork inspection stamp has also been completed by hunters. When they have run out of space in the service book they then go on to list everything over the course of a further 23 entries on a typed service sheet detailing all completed maintenance over recent years, this has included new rear suspension at 114k, new track rod ends at 114k, new discs and pads at 117k, new radiator and thermostat at 118k, diff and gearbox oil changed at 119k, new stainless exhaust at 119k, drop links changed at 120k, major service including gearbox oil and coolant at 121k (2015) and also just had a new battery, water pump and 2 new front brake calipers this year at 121900!
bodywork:
a very presentable, usable example for its age. Worth noting that the car had the bottom half of the lower wings replaced in recent years (a common e24 problem) speaking with the owner this was prevention rather than cure as he did intend on keeping the 635 much much longer. The car has the usual minor car park dings you would expect on a car of this age, also there is a scuff to the lower side front bumper nearside corner, surface corrosion below nsr lens and there are signs of previous paintwork in various areas to the trained eye (owing to the fact that it is almost 30 years old). i am happy to forward via email/ whatsapp any videos/ photographs of any specific areas you may require to confirm the overall condition and also happy to give a professional description if so. I may sound a little negative here but i am merely trying to satisfy everyone as peoples expectations vary hugely on older vehicles. It is a very nice condition, level, honest car overall. Any potential buyer will be as pleased as i was when i bought it.
interior:
all highline models received a sumptuous leather interior, in this instance finished in black, there was also extended leather to the door cards, dash and transmission tunnel. This has worn very well. The only visible signs of wear being some minor discolouration to the drivers seat. There are no rips, tears or scratches to the trim and all components work just as they should.
alloy wheels and tyres:
recently refurbished bbs alloy wheels fitted with period correct trx tyres, the only wheel/ tyre combination for this model in my opinion and all balanced correctly, wheels checked for buckles also.
mechanical condition/ test drive:
i have done a number of journeys in this car recently and it drives very well indeed, the combination of the m30 engine and switchable (working) sports gearbox make this an effortless grand tourer. As you can see from the service record this vehicle has been exceptionally well maintained mechanically, with regular servicing attended to. The optional trip computer occasionally displays a coolant warning light even though the car never loses any coolant and has no leaks in the system. Test drives are welcome upon receipt of valid insurance and identification or i can happily drive you, before auction end if you wish to confirm the above.
