Lot 40

A 1962 Land Rover Series IIA 88" canvas tilt, registration number JJK 496J, chassis number 24103268A, Bronze green. Series IIA production started in 1961 and a short wheel base example found fame in the film Born Free alongside Elsa the lion. As previous models the Series II was available in both short wheel base and long wheel base forms. This 88" canvas tilt was released from military service and registered on 1st July 1971. There were two previous registered keepers before the current owner purchased the Land Rover in 1996. In the last three years considerable expenditure has been lavished upon it. The Land Rover was entrusted to an East Midlands specialist who fitted a new galvanised chassis, rebuilding the engine to unleaded specification, fitted new doors, renewing the drivetrain and running gear and painting the body in traditional Bronze green. The Land Rover was then sent to Marksdanes who fitted a new canvas tilt, refurbished the wheels, fitted a new radiator and wiring loom, refitted the dashboard, and completed the car for MOT. The accompanying history file contains the purchase invoice in 1996 for £2500, copy receipts from Craddocks for approximately £2000, a receipt from Marksdanes for £9500, previous MOT's and sundry paperwork. Unfortunately receipts for the previous part of the restoration are not available. Now freshly MOT'd this smartly presented example is ready to be enjoyed by the next custodian.
