EXTERIOR
The Black Sapphire Metallic paintwork is quite simply resplendent on this example. There are almost no imperfections to be found having been treated to a full repaint at BMW back in 2014. With an eye-watering £20k invoice from Barons, it comes as no surprise that the CSL now presents as new.
Ever the perfectionist, the current owner insisted on replacing almost all items of trim to really bring the car up to scratch. On close inspection small details such as the carbon front splitters retain a factory fresh appearance, free from any of the usual road rash. The carbon roof was also replaced at BMW and of course presents without any lacquer peel or unsightly chips. This is especially good because original items such as these have fast become incredibly rare and almost impossible to source.
INTERIOR
With just 62k miles to its name the interior presents extremely well. The scratch-prone E46 trim appears almost entirely unmarked throughout, and the carbon detailing still retains a glossy finish. The spotless alcantara upholstery has worn incredibly well with no damage to any of the deep bolsters, and the steering wheel is also in lovely, unworn condition. This example was specified from new with air conditioning and a CD player.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The engine used in the CSL has an increased output over the regular S54 by 17hp and 4 lb-ft of torque, compared to the European M3. This is due to the use of sharper profile camshafts, a bigger air intake with a carbon fibre manifold, and refinement of the exhaust manifold. Under the bonnet of this example you'll find a pristine engine bay laced with carbon fibre. The car is complete with a full service history, with the most recent service having been carried out little over 1k miles ago.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Specially developed racing springs and dampers were given to the CSL, as well as a tightened steering ratio for improved responsiveness. The braking system was also improved with larger front floating rotors and larger pistons in the rear calipers; front calipers were the same as the standard M3 but with a larger caliper carrier to allow for the larger rotor. Undoubtedly the car stops well on test.
The M3 sits on its original set of 19-inch lightweight cast BBS alloys. The wheels are shod in a matching set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, each with ample tread remaining. The rims are entirely unmarked and present with the correct BMW centre caps, also remaining in good order.
HISTORY FILE
The CSL was first registered in October 2003. John Clark Tayside Ltd. supplied the car new, with the running-in check and subsequent three services having been carried out by John Clark Ltd in Aberdeen. The remaining services were undertaken by both BMW and renowned BMW specialists.
Present in the history file is the original leather/ alcantara CSL document pack, complete with all the dealer-supplied manuals including the CSL supplementary owner's handbook. The paperwork consists of a stack of BMW and specialist invoices, plenty of MOT certificates, and the original dealer pre-delivery inspection sheet.
