Offered on the open market for the first time in over 50 years. CTU892 a Cheshire registered car was dispatched to Henleys of Manchester from Alvis on the 16th June 1936 with the guarantee card being written on the 18th June of that same year. The proud first owner was Nathaniel Greening of Frodsham Cheshire and understood to have been a Butcher in Chester! Today the car stands as she did then with the original timber and metal work as crafted by Cross & Ellis. Together with the original matching engine, even the colour combination is correct as she left the factory other than the wheels, which would have been black originally.
CTU892 then travelled to the country, having two long term owners, S Stickland then L Haliwell each of 10 years Hampshire and East Suffolk respectfully, before the car returned to the north being sold to Andrew Blacow of Cheadle, Cheshire, in 1963. The mileage in Andrew’s journal for CTU892 states a purchase date of 25th January 1963 and a recorded mileage of 86600 miles.
Andrews Blacow’s adventures are documented in past Alvis Owners Club newsletters (which are in the file). Andrew Blacow sadly passed away in early 2006 with CTU892 ownership transferring to his daughter until October of the same year. It was at this point that CTU892 was snapped up by my client, an active member of the Preston and District Vintage Car Club (P&DVCC) with a recorded mileage of 69066, meaning the late Andrew Blacow had covered 82466 miles during his time, not bad going.
As soon as CTU892 was firmly at home with her 5th registered keeper it was decided that the original leather interior had seen better days. It was fully renewed in the original coloured leather and carpets. All the wet weather equipment was also replaced at the same time. Mechanics wise the car was sent to Mick Fletcher of Blackburn, an acknowledged Alvis specialist. The cylinder head was overhauled and the clutch replaced. Other than that only routine servicing has been required over the last 11 years and 13000 miles. The oil pressure reads very well and she doesn’t use any oil between services my client stated that he had never had the engine over 3000 RPM.
CTU892 is not a concourse car and is price accordingly, however she is perfectly presentable and ready for immediate use without major works being required as far as we can tell. She is an ideal candidate for one of the many multi day rally events or as a family touring car.
