IS IT FOR SALE ( YES )

DO I REALLY WANT TO SELL IT! ( NO Not Really)

WHY ( ITS SO RELIABLE BUT UNFORTUNATELY IT ONLY GETS USED ONCE A WEEK)

READ ON!

Who remembers having one of these , they were the most robust and safest family cars of the 80's and 90's , They were as reliable as a Jumbo Jet and could nearly carry as much! also being as tough as a tank they will outlast most of whats on the roads today.

The 940 petrol was introduced in 1990 and produced up to 1998 and that was the last of the traditional rear wheel drive Volvo estates (proper volvos).
The Diesel's had a shorter run of only 5 years

These Volvo estates were very over engineered which is why the surviving cars are often in good condition and without significant rust. Engines are very strong and capable of high millages.
This one is a bit special having the 2. 4 6 cylinder diesel fitted from factory.
turbodiesel
intercooler
D24TIC
1991–1996 ( only ever had a 5 year run)
122 hp (91 kW) @4800
240 N⋅m (180 lb⋅ft) @2500
2, 383 cc (145. 4 in3)

'95 940 Estate with a 2. 4 TDic Manual.
****** Best Available Modern Classic******
THIS IS AN OLD SCHOOL PRE-EMMISIONS DIESEL
WITHOUT ANY COMPLICATED ELECTRONICS ADDED
TO MESS WITH YOUR HEAD OR YOUR POCKET WHEN IT ALL GOES WRONG
IF IT WASN'T FOR EU REGULATIONS THEY WOULD STILL BE MADE LIKE THIS, SIMPLE, SAFE, SECURE THE WAY A CAR SHOULD BE

The rear wheel drive 'old school' Volvo's are the car to be buying now, they are as good as if not better than the older Mercedes models but are still a fraction of the price for like for like top examples.

This classic Volvo estate would suit someone who wants a reliable, long term daily drive.
They don't build cars like this anymore, most modern cars seem to spend more time in the main Dealers being fixed !

With New MOT Regulations taking affect from 20th May 2018 and Diesel cars being hit hard especially newer models with PDF Filters,, This is the one to have.
NO PDF filter so No Fail on that part of the test!

If I drive it gently I get 45/ 46 mpg,
If I drive like Nigel Mansell it drops to around 38 mpg.
This is not a slow car when you put your foot down.
75/ 80 mph motorway cruising will get 42mpg, mixed town/ country driving about 36/ 38 mpg.

THIS IS A LONG ADVERT, I HAVE TRIED TO COVER EVERYTHING SO PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ IT

Solid, capable load-carrying estate that will run and run if you look after it,
If you buy a saloon they offer tank-like protection for half the price of an estate and the 3. 0-litre 24-valve is astonishingly quick. (Fact)

Just so you know this is NOT a must sell, so no silly offers........ This is as reliable as the day is long!

The Price is the Price is the Price!

If you don't want it then I'll happily hang on to it and continue to use it once a week.

These cars are old fashioned technology, so simple to work on and rarely break down... When set up properly will leave a 940 2. 3 petrol standing.

Unlike the modern car these are a bit like the old VW Diesel Golf of the 80's, on a cold frosty morning they smoke a bit when first started, but after a 30 seconds or so that clears and they are ready to go...

The secret with these engines is never hammer them until they are up to normal operating temperature.

I just sold this cars twin which was an auto a few months ago after completely rebuilding the top end of the motor.
This one has had the same treatment.

The cylinder head has been completely refurbished costing £500, It's had New valves, valve stem oil seals, New Hydraulic Lifters, the head's been pressure tested, new valve guides, a light skim, new injectors and the fuel injection pump has just come back after being fully reconditioned costing £350.
New NGK Glow plugs fitted when rebuilt £38, obviously a new head gasket and new head bolts were fitted
I might add that the head is perfect between the valves with no cracking.

The cam belt and the injector pump belt have been replaced with New Belts so they should be good for at least another 50, 000 miles...... I have also changed the Idler bearing and the tensioner Bearing at the front of the engine with New items along with a New Water Pump..........................

Look after these engines and they will look after you, I've never had a breakdown in one of my Volvo's and as I tend to do 5 or 6 hundred miles in a day usually once every 6 months that says something for their reliability

Its had a new clutch kit, clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder so nothing to worry about in that department.
It's had new front Brake Calipers
New rear Shocks ( self Levelling ) NOT Cheap items!

The speedo is reading 217, 421 which over it's lifetime is 9840 miles a year on average, nothing for one of these engines, .........................................

The headlining is good and NOT sagging like some you see.
The Seats both back and front are all OK with NO marks or holes or cigarette burns on them.

The door cards are all OK with no wrinkling.

The top of the dash is perfect with no cracking from the sun.

The windscreen is free of cracks.

The radio works and the radio code is present

The heater works and the fan works on all 4 settings

The headlights are good with no rust in the lenses.

The carpets are in good condition and it has Volvo hard mats on the floor

The rear load area of the car is also nice and clean another indication that this car has not had a hard life.

There is a rear load liner, the hard plastic type that covers the boot area, in the back which will keep the rear floor clean. There is even the original Volvo Tool Kit with the original unused gloves, so that says to me since they have never been used it's never broken down.

The car does have a tow bar fitted, an expensive one at that, a quick release one. The car itself does have the odd mark here and there commensurate with its age but nothing that detracts from the look of the car.

This car has a glass electric sun roof ( factory spec )
There is an internal cover or blind that you can pull over so no light shines in..............

The 6 cylinder engine is quiet at speed, anything over 20 and you wouldn't know it was a diesel, she'll sit at 70 mph ( 3000rpm) very nicely and its nice and quiet, slow down to 25 or 30 to go through a village you can hear the burble of the straight 6
All the Dash lights are working correctly and they all go out as they should. The engine fires up on the first turn of the key as long as you wait for the glow plug light to go out. (I always do when the engine is cold)

It's a 5 speed Manual, a better box than the 4 speed + overdrive,
Priced at £3800 ono / it sound like a lot of money I hear you say, but where do you find another, with everything in working order, a Full MOT and no advisory's, they are not around every street corner and chances are you'll need to spend very little on this one over the next few years..........

Hey! If it sells it sells, if it doesn't then I'll just hang on to it and use it once a week as I do at the moment for a Sunday Jaunt, or use it when I want to do some maintenance work on my Discovery 1( another very underrated vehicle.)( Last Picture)

Are there any bad bits of bodywork?....... NO.
If there was it would be listed in the advert.

NO Holes, NO Rot, No Nothing just a solid old 940 2. 4 D24Tic

Yes you will find one or two around the country that are cheaper than this that state in the advert Sold As Parts / or as a Project Due To it's Age,  that probably means it's not that reliable, and need a lot work doing on it!..

Dont get me wrong, by all means take a chance if you want!........... But be warned you'll spend £800 + if the cylinder head and injector pump need looking at.

I don't sell stuff like that! It's got to be right!
If it's not right I won't drive it and I certainly wouldn't sell it.

They are cheap to run, very rarely break down, and easy to service unlike the modern cars that are around today.

£25 will buy you 5 litres of oil, an oil filter and an air filter from wwwcarparts4less

These were the top of the range cars in their day....... and it's really Rolls Royce motoring for Fiat Panda money.
Thats not a dig at the Fiat Panda before anybody starts .
The Panda is a good little car, My wife has one!!

I would get into the Volvo and drive anywhere without a worry.
In fact I used it just the other week to travel 300 miles to collect a new trailer and 300 miles back again and it never missed a beat, used no oil and no water on the journey.
Wouldn't do that in a new car as they are full of sensors watching sensors and ecu's waiting to die, or PDF Filters waiting to choke up and put you into limp mode.
I guess you have realized I have no time for all the modern cars that are on the roads today.

So there you have it a Volvo 940 that's as reliable as the day is long.
I really don't know why I am selling it. But there you go.

These are not around every street corner and are getting rare. Old style technology that will out last the modern rubbish they make today.

This car is North of the line in Ayrshire, Scotland

( 90 miles north of Carlisle )

as with most classics nowadays one sometimes has to travel if you want a good one, all I can say is that if you travel a long way to see this car you won't be disappointed.
More pictures of any area of the car are only a click away. Feel free to Ask!.... Nothing to hide!

So there you have it! No frills engine with no electronics to go wrong, and returning good MPG.

An Old style Volvo that they just don't make any more. These engines have been known to cover half a million miles + with regular oil changes.

It's a no brainer, If you're not after a fancy car with all the toys as they say, but you still want comfort and good MPG then you might just have found the car that will last you a lifetime.

Take it or leave it, I've tried to be as honest as I can

I love this car!!

But everything has a Price and the price for this is £3800

Drives like a dream, handles well, great miles to the gallon , steady, secure, safe.

Engine is great... Engineering is wonderful... wouldn't trade it for a brand new anything!

Is there a down side

YES
There aren't any cup holders.
