1967 Ford Corsair 2000E
Due to an increase in work and no additional storage, I’m unfortunately offering my own personal “67’ 2000E for sale. I purchased this car last year for sentimental reasons as it was registered close to my birthday and it was the ideal 50th present to myself. Anyway, sadly the Corsair has to go so I can free up space for both sales and customers vehicles as a result of increased volumes. I don’t want the 2000E out in the winter weather so time for it to be cherished by a new owner. Before I go onto the overall condition, I would like to point out that the photos were taken today after i took the old girl for a run.
I would also like to make it clear that the car still needs a couple of minor bits and bobs, and an MOT so I’m selling as an unfinished project.
So, the following represents the cars current condition but please contact me to arrange a viewing or to ask any further questions.
Bodywork.
The Corsair looks lovely and really doesn’t need any bodywork, unless you want a concourse car. The panels are straight, she is nice and shiny and very solid with none of the usual Corsair problem areas, like rear wing bottoms, front valance, rear valance and sills. The outer sill on the driver’s side has been replaced by the last owner and the driver’s front outrigger has also been renewed. Both are rock solid and I have black wax oiled these areas and the rest of the floor pans. The remainder of the underside is very solid no work to do in that department. The engine bay is again very clean and tidy, however the top plates have been repaired at some point in the past and although very strong, I would have personally blended these in the with original inner wings. I have recently had a new vinyl roof fitted and pleased to say there was no rust on the roof panel itself so again good news. Overall the body looks great and there isn’t really anything needed.
Interior
Being a rare Ivory colour, the seats could do with re-dying, as the vinyl is a little bit off colour after 50 years. I had planned to have this re-trimmed in leather but you could certainly repaint them with vinyl dye. The rear seat has suffered from the stitching breaking in the middle of the top; I do however have another seat set included. Front seats are in good condition with again one isolated area of stitching coming adrift. Dash and headliner is pretty good and all the instruments operate well. The heater is fabulous and overall the interior is in good condition. By the way, this interior colour is very rare, I can't find reference to any other 2000E's with this colour scheme but it is factory so maybe a special order at that time.
Mechanicals
The V4 2. 0 litre in this old girl is wonderful and she ticks over like a sewing machine. She holds good temperature, has no unusual noises and in my opinion sounds very healthy. I’ve not driven her very far but the brakes are very good and the gearbox and axle seem typical Ford from this era. Obviously you would need to give her a thorough check over, do all the fluids and check suspension, brakes, etc, etc prior to going in for MOT. The exhaust isn’t blowing but the back box is really showing its age and has been repaired/ sealed a number of times in the past. Personally I would recommend you fit a new one. Tyres are all good and after a run around the local roads, the Corsair drove very well and gave me no issues
History
The Corsair has some nice history and the first owner kept diaries from 67 through to 69 detailing his journeys, fuel costs and service items. The service book is also stamped up to the early 70’s so again a nice touch.
Summary
This is a very nice Corsair in a rare colour combination of Blue Mink metallic and Ivory interior. She looks very smart, has a nice engine and clean interior. You will want to improve her and she will need some minor bits and bobs for the MOT. There is no big expense and you could use this car daily after a few hours work and some new parts. I could if I had the time finish this car, sort the exhaust and do the MOT. Then I could stick her on the forecourt for a silly price, but to be honest I’m sad to see her go and have therefore decided to list with a reserve that covers my cost and let somebody else do the easy bits and enjoy his lovely car. 2000E’s are going up in price rapidly so a great investment for the right person.
