Descrição
A stunning restored example of an authentic GTC, one of the rarest and most sought after post-war Alfa Romeos – coach-built and seats four.
We are facilitating the sale of this car on behalf of a customer.
History of this car
With only around 900 examples made in LHD, the GTC - Carrozzeria Touring of Milan’s last hurrah - is scarcer than the fabled GTA.
Ours is a real Giulia GT Cabriolet tipo 105. 25. According to the certificate on file from the Alfa Romeo archive, it was manufactured on 13th November 1964 and sold new to Napoli on 19th November 1965, originally finished in Hawthorn white with a black skai interior.
We believe the car remained in the temperate south of Italy until it was exported to Japan in 1992. The current owner acquired the car in Tokyo in 2007, and commissioned a restoration by Tokyo based Alfa Romeo specialist Delauto. This restoration included colour changing the car, all new trim and overhauled mechanicals.
The GTC was subsequently imported to the UK in 2011 by the same owner who used it regularly here (around 5000 miles covered, with complete reliability), and maintained it regardless of cost through marque specialists.
Body
This Giulia had a thorough body job as part of its restoration in Japan, with photographic documentation on file; this included chassis strengthening to help eradicate the scuttle shake the GTC is known to suffer from.
Today the body presents impressively and appears to be entirely rust free. The grigio medio paintwork looks gorgeous with an even finish all over and no marks of any note. There are no signs of the original white finish anywhere on the car.
The chassis is straight and there are no apparent signs of previous accident damage; our car has been carefully rust protected and the chassis has an even protective coating of underseal.
All external trim is present and correct and in A1 condition, as is the glass.
The soft-top, a fine quality item, replaced at the time of the restoration, remains in excellent condition. It’s very easy to use, tucking away neatly to be flush with the overall line of the car’s profile.
Mechanicals
These GTCs are wonderful cars to drive, to quote Autocar - ‘it handles impeccably, with all the precision and predictable behavior that have kept Alfa models so well established in sports car markets throughout the world.’
Delauto overhauled all the mechanicals as part of the car’s restoration. This included the engine, gearbox, suspension, brakes and steering; these processes are photo documented.
The correct AR00502 1600 lump is responsive and lusty, the yellow Koni equipped suspension is well balanced – not too soft nor too harsh, and with excellent braking power to boot, this example is sure not to disappoint.
Under bonnet presentation is very sharp with all the right finishes.
The Alfa has an advisory free MOT until 31. 08. 2018 and was newly serviced ready for sale in August 2017.
Interior
We love this car’s sumptuous red leather interior, and the grey dash face is so much nicer than the wood veneer found on later step front cars.
In the rear there is a surprisingly large amount of space and this really is a four-seat cabriolet.
Everything here is in perfect condition.
Front and rear seatbelts have been retrofitted.
Boot
Presents tidily with fresh sealing rubbers and protective matting throughout.
Summary
A rare and chic 60s Italian cabriolet the family can enjoy, this model seldom comes to market and represents excellent value at the price suggested.
