This beautiful face-lift R107 500SL is finished in Willow Green metallic with a contrasting Pine Green metallic hardtop, complemented by a dark green hood and dark green Sports-Check cloth interior.
Purchased new on the first of May 1987 from Cloverleaf Cars of Odiham, Mercedes main agents in Hampshire, by a Mrs Ebbage, this Mercedes remained in her ownership until 2015. It has had two subsequent owners and the mileage now stands at just 47, 658 miles.
In addition to the 500SL’s standard equipment this car has an outside temperature gauge, rear seats and illuminated vanity mirrors, plus a dealer fit Blaupunkt Melbourne radio cassette and electric aerial.
All original books & manuals are present, the original bill of sale and a Full Service History. The service book contains 18 stamps and there is a substantial file of corresponding bills and paperwork.
In recent years the car has had a substantial amount invested into it to maintain its superb condition.
In 2015 a new hood, refurbished wheels with new Dunlop tyres, total cavity wax and rust prevention were carried out along with a full inspection, including the bulkhead, which was found to be perfect and original.
In 2016 a major maintenance service and programme of work was carried out by Automobils Pyrenees, the Mercedes-Benz main dealer in Andorra. This addition work included a full gearbox overhaul, differential overhaul (including new casing), timing chain inspection (all ok), front subframe bush replacement, engine mount replacement, fuel pumps and pipes, a complete exhaust system, brake hoses and fluid, Ignition system overhaul and steering damper, all using genuine parts of course with no expense spared.
The result of this unstinting maintenance of an already superb, low mileage 500SL is an extremely well-sorted car indeed that needs nothing other than a new owner to use and enjoy the car.
The bodywork is in exceptional condition, as is the brightwork. The wheels are unmarked and wear new Dunlop tyres. The interior is superb and original, right down to the stereo. The hood is new and the hard-top is unmarked.
As a post-’86 facelift car it benefits from all the improvements made to the last of the line cars, and as 500 (which is rather less common than the 300) offers prodigious performance and relaxed high-speed cruising.
All in all, a superb SL with elegant colours, superb history and provenance and low miles.
