FERRARI 308 GTB (VETRORESINA), 1977
RIGHT HAND DRIVE: UK SUPPLIED: 1 OF ONLY 158 CARS PRODUCED
THREE OWNERS: 37, 800 MILES: LONG TERM OWNERSHIP 33+ YEARS
Officially introduced at the Paris Salon in October 1975, the 308 GTB’s styling was created by Pininfarina’s Leonardo Fioravanti, who had been responsible for some of Ferrari’s most celebrated shapes to date such as the Daytona, the Dino and the Berlinetta Boxer. The stunning two seat coachwork was all new, but incorporated all of the old magic by blending aspects of the Dino 246GT with the later 365 GT4/ BB. Reminiscent of the Boxer was the dihedral groove at bumper level splitting top and bottom, the plunging nose and the sail panels reaching back to meet a shallower spoiler, while the conical side air intakes and recessed concave rear window were familiar from the Dino. The 308 GTB employed a tubular steel chassis with independent coil spring/ wishbone suspension front and rear, complimented by anti-roll bars, adjustable dampers and powerful disc
At its heart was a Formula One derived, all alloy, four camshaft 3. 0 litre V8 engine, allied to a transversely mounted five-speed gearbox. The very first 308 GTB’s (Vetroresina) produced were the fastest and best handling thanks to a fibreglass body that weighed substantially less than the steel coachwork models that replaced these original lightweight models. Also, the first cars also featured the highly desired race-bred dry sump lubrication.
Rolling off the Ferrari production line in 1976, our ultra-rare fibreglass, dry sump car; (the only ones given Group 4 homologation for competition) # 20689, was delivered new to the UK and is one of only 154 right hand drive models produced. Supplied new via Maranello Concessionaires Ltd on the 15th February 1977 to Mr Graham Priaulx of St. Martins, Guernsey.
Commissioned to be built to the following specification: Exterior: Rosso Metallizzato (133-R-10) with factory options, Air Conditioning and Metallic Paint. We have been informed by Ferrari S. p. A that this example is one of only four cars supplied to the UK in this very desirable and rare colour.
The second keeper Mr D. A Bisson, also a Channel Islands resident, acquired the Ferrari on the 25th June 1982 and remained in the family’s private car collection ever since; some 33+ years! On Hexagon Classics acquisition, we commenced a through and detailed restoration works that included, complete repaint in the correct manufactured colour specification Rosso Metallizato, complete re trim in Nero Hide and Nero Wilton carpets, complete mechanical preparation with official Ferrari Classiche service agent, The Issuance of Classiche by Ferrari S. p. A
We are proud to offer for sale this highly collectable are rare motorcar that has covered only 37, 800 miles with three registered keepers from new, complete with chassis file: original leather pouch and handbook, original buff log book, various maintenance invoices, original Ferrari S. p. A order documents.
The GTB Vetroresina is the most desirable version of Ferrari’s iconic 308, being a genuine UK delivered right hand drive example, (only 158 supplied) together with being just one of four examples produced in Rosso Metallizato. This a unique opportunity to acquire one of the most highly regarded contemporary models produced by Modena and a fantastic investment opportunity for the future.
