History of this car
Our Flaminia is chassis 3631, a Tipo 813. 00 model made on 30/ 06/ 1961, and as such is one of the last of the 2695 manufactured, and therefore one of the last Lancias made entirely at the old Borgo San Paulo plant.
These cars are probably the best made cars to wear the Made in Italy badge. Only a handful were manufactured daily to the highest standards Lancia could achieve; it is an impressive vehicle full of character and style.
We have commissioned a full PRA ownership report on this Lancia. First registered new on 12. 07. 1961 registration MI 572643 sold by Lancia dealer SAICAR Spa to Rheem Safim Spa (now group Ariston Spa) in Milano for 3 millions lira. Rheem was a well known manufacturer of white goods, similar to Hoover.
On 06. 02. 1965 Rheem sells chassis 3631 to sister company Minetti Spa in Milano. Immediately after on 13. 02. 1965 Minetti sells to noble woman Celeste Paternoster (probably one of the Rheem owners ). The car was re-registered CO 153419 (a number which has been on the vehicle since 1965) with change of address to her home in the lake Como area. At the same time this lady changed the use of the car from private to driver use only, i. e chauffeur usage. It is reasonable to assume this car has been chauffeur driven for most of its life, and the superb original interior bears testimony to that assumption.
The Flaminia had two further owners from 1980 and travelled south to Naples, before moving to Catania to the previous owner who conducted a light restoration of the car in 2009. It has since been used sparingly since for shows and events.
Mileage recorded is 60, 000klms, which is possibly the genuine mileage from new given the condition of wear items such as the interior and glass.
We imported the car recently and it is sold with an age related UK registration.
Body
The bodies on these cars are complex and incredibly well made, and must have cost a fortune to build. Our car has benefitted from a photo documented body restoration in 2009 where corroded metal was cut out and new panels let in. The car was then repainted in its delivery colour of Lancia blue. The finish of the paint today is very good with an even shine. All the glass on the car is excellent without abrasions.
The bright work, of which there is a lot, is in good to excellent condition. Importantly, there is nothing missing and everything fits nicely. Chassis wise the floors and sills are all solid and there is no visible accident damage.
Mechanicals
The engine in our car is we believe the original and seems in fine fettle with good oil pressure, it starts instantly and makes good power. The brakes are very effective and on our test drive the Lancia is a quiet and sophisticated car to drive, with a slick column shift gear change.
The exhaust system and battery are recent replacements, and our car has just had new plugs and HT leads, plus engine oil and filter changes and chassis lubrication performed.
New MOT issued, expiring February 2019.
Interior
This is a feature of this example. With bench seating and column gear change there is room for six and the condition of the interior of this example is exemplary: unrestored but in excellent shape, lovely grey wool cloth trim with virtually no wear, perfect headlining and door cards, original matting.
Boot
A cavernous space in good condition with original rubber matting, spare wheel and cover.
Summary
A beautiful Berlina in the best colour, a lot of stylish fun for the whole family. Given what you get, these cars are criminally cheap!
