We have just imported a superb 2003 Volkswagen Lupo GTI 6 Speed from Japan. This Reflex Silver example was handpicked by ourselves. It has covered 85500 miles (138, 000 kms) and is in stunning condition.
It is registered on a 2003/ 03 plate. All mechanical and servicing preparation has just been completed. This has included new battery, cambelt kit/ water pump and a service replacing oil/ filter and coolant. As is common on 6 speed versions of the GTI the 6th gear synchro hub and baulk rings have also been replaced. All preparation work has been carried out by leading Cheshire based independent VAG specialist, Votex. A new set of Toyo Proxes tyres has also just been fitted, these are the correct 205/ 45 size which is hard to obtain.
The overall condition of this car is superb inside and out with unmarked straight panels. Aside from the current alloys and uprated Bilstein B6 dampers the car is unmodified. The engine bay and underside is particularly tidy helped of course by Japan's salt free roads.
The specification includes Air-Con, ABS, Electric Windows & Mirrors, Cupholders, Comfort Sports Seats, Airbags, Rear Headrests and Remote Central Locking.
If you have never driven a Lupo GTI before they are really good fun. Due to a low weight of just 1000 kgs and a twin cam 1. 6 litre engine that produces 125 bhp (this engine and gearbox was only used in GTI versions of the Lupo and the 200kg heavier Polo GTI) they perform very strongly throughout the rev range pulling from 30 mph in 5th like many cars would in 3rd.
Unlike the rest of the Lupo range the GTI used aluminium for the bonnet, front wings and doors, all of which are in superb condition with no dings or major paintwork defects. Thinner glass was also used for the windscreen. Further differences over the standard Lupo models include a wider track leading to extended front and rear wheel arches, a different boot floor to accommodate moving the battery to the rear for improved weight distribution. The only panels shared with the regular Lupo seem to be the tailgate and roof panel. All of these significant changes are the ingredients of a proper little hot hatch and modern classic...
Overall these pint sized GTI's are among the last proper hot hatches being light weight and normally aspirated so not requiring huge amounts of turbo power to shift a level of ever increasing weight and complexity along!
