EXTERIOR
The E28’s Alpineweiss paintwork appears fresh throughout and looks particularly smart adorned with the classic blue/ green Alpina livery. The body is very straight along both sides and all items of trim remain in exceptional condition, even on close inspection. The imposing front air dam is accented with body-coloured side skirts and a rear valance. The rear spoiler continues the purposeful aesthetic and presents very well, free from any cracking or wear. The bumpers are also in fine order front and rear; there are no scuffs on the corners and the brightwork retains a brilliant sheen.
INTERIOR
The entire cabin is extremely well preserved, the only sign of use being a little patina to the original Alpina steering wheel. The wooden Alpina gear knob presents beautifully and the Recaro sports seats are immaculate. They are upholstered in anthracite cloth with no wear or marking to the deep bolsters. The rear seats are also pristine and are equipped with head restraints. Pleasingly the foot-wells are still protected by the original BMW overmats – a particularly rare find in E28s today – and in the boot you’ll find an unmarked carpet, a pristine spare wheel, and a complete BMW toolkit.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The engine bay is especially tidy having been well maintained from new. The car boasts an excellent service history with just a few thousand miles between each service. The under-bonnet area is very clean without being overly dressed and remains in superb original condition. There are no areas for concern with none of the usual corrosion in any of the common weak spots.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The open-lug Alpina alloys present immaculately throughout, with no curb marking or age-related wear to speak of. They are correctly finished with black centres and are shod in Dunlop tyres all round. Between the spokes the brake discs appear in fine fettle, showing plenty of meat left.
HISTORY FILE
The E28 was first registered in January 1985. It was sold through Sorensons Motors Ltd who went on to look after the car for the next 18 years, ensuring the correct BMW maintenance was carried out at the close mileage intervals listed below. The stamped Owner’s Manual/ Service Booklet is backed up with a number of BMW invoices and inspection reports that are still present in the history file.
The car was originally supplied by Sorensons Motors as a 528i SE but was soon prepared to Alpina B2. 8 specification at the first owner's request. It is understood that he had his heart set on an Alpina although he was unable to acquire one brand new. The genuine Alpina parts were supplied and fitted by BMW, although not by Sytner in this case.
