EXTERIOR
This striking E24 presents beautifully in the fantastic period colour combo of Sable Brown Metallic with Nutria Buffalo leather. Each side is finished with a contrasting pinstripe along the arrow-straight panels, complementing nicely both the car’s polished trim and subtler black detailing. The bodywork is in great condition overall, with no major signs of wear to report. There is a light dusting of chips to the ribbed portion of the front air dam, but elsewhere the bumpers are unscathed and the brightwork remains in fine original condition.
INTERIOR
The charismatic interior is a welcome sight upon entry, the upholstery having aged to perfection. The textured grain of the Buffalo leather presents with a wonderful patina that can only be achieved with age. It has worn extremely well over time, and while the seats have clearly been used there is no damage to speak of.
A common issue with these 6-Series can be the temperamental ‘80s electrics but in this example the seats are manually adjustable. Items such as the electric windows and sunroof still function as they should and the switchgear remains feeling solid to operate. In the foot-wells you’ll find the original overmats protecting the carpets and in the boot you’ll find the alloy spare wheel, toolkit, and BMW first aid kit still in its plastic wrapping.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The M1-derived 3. 5-litre straight six erupts into life first turn of the key. Paired with a full stainless exhaust system fitted by DK Engineering the car sounds superb all the way through the revs. The engine bay is particularly tidy and appears amazingly original on close inspection. There are no hints of any corrosion or damage and all components present in fine fettle throughout. The most recent service was an Inspection II carried out at 81, 500 miles.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The AC Schnitzer wheels are, we think, a cracking period upgrade over the factory cross-spoke rims, and the fact that they don’t require costly TRX tyres is a real bonus. The alloys front and rear have a lovely deep dish, further accentuated by the polished outer rims. A perfectionist may note a little age-related wear present to each of the wheels but curb marking has been kept to a minimum. The alloys are wrapped in a matching set of Continental tyres providing excellent grip and feel on the road.
HISTORY FILE
This M635 was first registered in June 1986. It was supplied new in Germany and was sold through Schmeink & Co, Bocholt. The car arrived in the UK in 2013 but has covered very few miles since that time, remaining in dry storage when not in use. The History File is complete with a handful of invoices from UK dealers such as BMW and DK Engineering. The dealer-stamped Owner’s Handbook/ Service Booklet is also present and correct.
