Beschreibung
Once described in the vintage bike bible ‘Classic Superbikes from around the World’ as “…exactly like a Triumph Bonnie but without having to push it home”, this immaculate parallel twin re-wrote the rule book and was in part responsible for the downfall of the British bike era with it’s bullet proof, modern 4 stroke engine.
16th off the production line for the US market, re-imported to the UK and then nut and bolt restored by it’s current owner, this beautiful and rare example of the XS2 was featured in the August 2016 edition of Classic Bike for it’s Front Cover and main article.
Stripped bare, with the frame powder coated, all paintwork lovingly restored in the original cherry red colours, everything about this bike screams originality.
While over the entire XS650 production history, thousands of these bikes were made, almost none survive in original form, as the durability of the engine has meant most examples have been customised as bobbers, flat trackers, sprint machines or choppers.
With just 14, 000 on the clock (accurate), and every conceivable period part re-conditioned or replaced, including all new bearings, rubber mounts, swing arm shims, this lovely machine is not just a classic investment, it’s a good ride too, with the current owner adding around 1, 000 trouble free miles to the tacho every year.
The XS2 is the one to have. The XS1 while first off the production line, was ill equipped for it’s 110mph top speed, with a drum front brake, this having been replaced with a disc and an electric start in 1972, with the advent of the XS2.
The Engine is currently undergoing a full check, tune and re-build by a race engine mechanic of Goodwood competition pedigree to ensure first class condition on sale.
Boxes of spares including short pipes, and spare spoked wheels amongst a great deal of other now impossible to replace parts.
