Introduced in 1962, thanks to its affordable pricing and ease of everyday use, the MGB quickly became one of the most popular British sports cars of all time and remains so today.

The current owner has had this MG for around 7 years, having wanted one for a while tasked a classic car dealer friend to find the best one he could for him, however in the time he's owned it, he has had less time than expected to get out and drive it, so has decided to part with the car.
The previous owner had it for many years and was a real enthusiast, lavishing a huge amount throughout the 90s and 00’s, including an Ivor Searle engine in 1991 and underwent a huge body restoration in 1999.

There is a huge folder of receipts with this car, the gentleman who owned it for around 20 years from the late 1980s until recently looked after it well and kept all his records and receipts so it's easy to see how much he enjoyed the car and was willing to spend to keep it in as good a condition as possible. The receipts show lots of parts from the MG Owners Club shop  - an excellent source of original spec parts - being supplied to garages and restorers.

There are no records of the interior being retrimmed when the car was restored in 1999, but the condition of the black vinyl seats with their red piping and matching door cards suggests they are relatively new to the car, the carpet is also very good and the dashboard has been updated to wood rather than the usual black crackle finish, and it is complemented by a wooden gear knob and wood rimmed Moto-lita style steering wheel.

Being a chrome bumper model, this is the more desirable earlier version, and those bumpers were replaced with new items in 1995 and they still look good today, with just some very light pitting on the front overriders.

The car underwent a very extensive restoration in 1999, being stripped completely and many new panels - the sills, rear inner and out arches, front wings, door skins and front valance, were all replaced and wheels sandblasted before a full respray in the red we see today. The paint still holds a good shine and looks very presentable, however recently some microblistering has started to appear in places, however the panels appear to be free of any damage or corrosion and underneath also appears very clean and solid.

The hood was replaced in 1993 and still looks excellent, the windows are bright and clear with no creases, and the light lenses also look very crisp and fresh.

There are chrome wheels with a near perfect finish and recent Hankook tyres with very little wear. 

The car has had lots done to it over the years, most notably in 1996 a new Ivor Searle engine was fitted by Bamford Engineering who also changed the clutch, although the clutch was changed again just last month at a cost of £830.

A new radiator and starter motor were fitted in 1999 and a Kenlowe fan has been added later, the front suspension, wishbones and dampers were done in 1996 and it had new brake flexi hoses in 2002.
It has a four speed gearbox but benefits from a Laycock overdrive being fitted.
Despite being exempt, the vendor has also just put a new MOT on the car, which it passed without issue, for added peace of mind for any potential bidders.

The quintessential British sports car, in drop top form with chrome bumpers and wire wheels and the ideal colour, this will be the perfect sports car for many. MGBs are fun to drive and easy to own with simple mechanics and low running costs.

With a new engine and full restoration under its belt, micro blisters aside this car is close to as good as it gets and ready to be driven and enjoyed.
