The Appeal
Alfa Romeo’s engineers worked exceptionally hard to deliver dynamics to match the evocative Pininfarina styling of the firm’s new 916 GTV. Key to the car’s agility is the clever ‘Alfa Link’ rear suspension, which uses sophisticated geometry and specific bushing compliance to physically pivot the rear wheels during cornering. That, plus a very quick steering rack with just 2.2 turns lock to lock, gives the 916 that essential ‘Alfaness’ so typical of previous GTVs.
Then, of course, there is this version of the GTV, the V6, with Giuseppe Busso’s ‘Violin of Arese.’ Indisputably one of the best engines of the post-war petrol era, it is reason alone to want this 2000 Grigio Titanio car. It is a later Phase 2 car too, with the revised dashboard, more powerful 217bhp 24V motor and the 6spd manual gearbox.
We have to admire the current keeper’s restraint. He acquired this car in 2002 and has managed to keep the mileage down to just 28,300 miles, surely making it one of the least-used 3L GTVs around. The result is a very tidy car and one that remains factory standard and unmodified. We’re told that it has been regularly serviced.
The car has spent time with the vendor in Spain, returning to the UK in 2023, and is now fully UK registered with the DVLA. The car is sold with a new MOT. It has covered barely any miles since the last advisory-free test in 2023.
The vendor says:
“It is a wonderful car which is a joy to drive. It looks and feels like new. I feel like movie star / character from a spy film when driving it.”
