The Appeal

Until the R8 came along, nobody had ever quite perfected the supercar as reliable, everyday transport. Yes, there was the 911, but the R8 was altogether less ‘ordinary.’

The R8 you want, of course, is this one: the 5.2L V10 with Plus package, of which just 300 made their way to the UK. These cars got more power, the later, much-improved S-Tronic gearbox and an array of desirable trim extras.

This car has to be amongst the lowest mileage and most meticulously maintained available. Finished in desirable Panther Black, a colour that subtly changes in the light, it is trimmed inside with quilted black leather and silver stitching. The factory specification is impressive, extending beyond the Plus features to include carbon ceramic brakes, and an upgraded sound system.

It has covered a paltry 13,700 miles in its life, all in the hands of just three keepers. The current one added it to their collection in 2023 and has lavished it with love, including a fortnightly professional detail to keep the interior and exterior in tip-top condition. But the maintenance hasn’t just focussed on the aesthetics - there is a run of 11 service stamps, all by Audi.

The R8 seems to suit certain colours and black is definitely one of them. This car features Panther Black, a colour that alters in the light. It suits the car’s various aluminium addenda - including those smart 19in alloys - and is in very good order thanks to fortnightly professional detailing during the current keeper’s ownership. The exterior is enhanced by the rare Plus fitments and extensive carbon detailing.

Inside those low miles result in a highly presented interior that looks barely altered from the day the car was first registered. The diamond-pattern leather is stitched in silver and there is more carbon trim to add to the purposeful aesthetic. A high quality stereo and host of electrical features make this a very comfortable and enjoyable place in which to scorch the horizon.

Audi, in typical style, offered many different flavours of R8, but if you’re going to buy one then you naturally want the V10. In the elevated Plus model its 5.2L engine is good for an astonishibng 543bhp, enough to reel in the road at an astonishing rate. 60 arrives in 3.2secs and if you live near an autobahn you can hit 197 mph if you dare.

With all that capability on tap then you’ll want to know your R8 has been properly looked after by those who went before you. This car certainly has been. It has covered less than 14,000 miles from new yet there is a run of 11 Audi service stamps in the book.
