The 1920s marked a key period in the evolution of the motor car. For the first time, manufacturers were interested in smaller, more affordable vehicles, aimed at a wider public.
In France, Renault developed the NN, Citroën launched the Type C, and Peugeot offered the 172R. An evolution of the 'Quadrilette', the 5CV 172R was a great success, selling almost 50,000 units during its five years of production.
This 1926 model has been in the hands of its current owner since 1974. He says:
"I bought this car in 1974. The car has been completely dismantled; the engine, bodywork, electrics, tyres, windows, wings, etc. have all been restored.
Some work remains to be done, notably on the upholstery and finding a replacement soft top, but the rest is ready for use. The Peugeot has been converted to a 12v electric system, without modifying the dynamo. It has always been stored in a garage during this period of ownership.
