The Appeal
They called it the four-door E-Type with good reason. Jaguar’s S-Type took the independent rear suspension of the firm’s nimble sports car and mated it to a clever reworking on the beautiful Mk2 body. Result: one of the most beautiful and capable sporting saloons ever built.
A short production run means that few were built and far fewer survive. The one you want is this car, equipped with the torquey 220bhp 3.8L XK engine plus the long-legged fully synchromesh manual overdrive gearbox. This is a classic that is as enjoyable to be driven in as it is to drive.
Recently restored and refinished in fetching Champagne metallic with retrimmed red leather cabin, this 1964 S-Type 3.8L is in very good order. Beyond the impressive aesthetics lies extensive work to the running gear. You’ll note the well presented and detailed engine bay. Less obvious will be the fully rebuilt braking system, the new exhaust and, importantly, the fully rebuilt suspension including the all-important rear ‘hangar’ for the IRS.
Wth just 60,165 miles showing on the odometer and a cossetted time in California for most of its life, this is a stand-out example of one of Jaguar’s best cars. It is COC exempt, so it can be easily EU registered according to the seller. One not to miss.
