The Appeal

The LWB 2+2 E-Type chassis would prove to be the most enduring format for Jaguar’s much-lauded sports car. Introduced with the Series 1, most went to America, with only 379 RHD cars built before the Series 2 arrived. 
That makes this car, one of the last built, a rare car. The joy of the early 2+2 is that it retains the ‘Series 1.5’ aesthetics but with the significantly improved accessibility thanks to bigger doors and a taller roofline. 
First registered in June 1968, this is a genuine RHD UK 4.2L manual gearbox car that has had just five keepers. The current one added it to his collection in 2019 and has used it sparingly whilst storing it in a heated garage on wet days and through winter. He tells us that the MOT records, which date back to 1985, verify the low displayed mileage of 82,899 miles. 
The car received a full, professional respray in 2019 and presents in very good order with a black leather interior. The cabin is well kept and benefits from a recently fitted new roof lining. Mechanically, the car is in similar order with a full service in 2020 plus refreshed brake, gearbox and clutch fluids. The vendor reports that the car has covered 300 miles since this work. New tyres were fitted at around the same time, together with a set of quality chrome wire wheels. 
Smart and very tidy, this practical late-model Series 1 is ideal for the early-E-Type enthusiast who wants to get out and enjoy their car.

“This is a great car to drive powerful and smooth. Corners well and stops in a straight line. I have enjoyed it for 6 years but my age now means I am unable to get the best from it and it's time for a new keeper to enjoy it.”

  • Underneath is protected by black underseal and appears free from rust we are told
  • Chromework in good order, appearing bright and with the usual Series 1.5 features
  • New front sidelights installed 
  • Fitted with new chrome wire wheels in 2019 
  • Four new tyres fitted at same time as rims 
  • Wider Series III air intake modified to resemble that of a Series 1
  • Black leather interior some leather wear but still very comfortable we are told 
  • New rooflining fitted 2 years ago
  • All switchgear works as expected we are told 
  • Leather-rimmed three-spoke E-Type style steering wheel 
  • Classic radio fitted

  • Engine starts easily and runs smoothly, we are told 
  • Vendor reports good oil pressure of 45 lbs at tickover
  • Two electric fans fitted to prevent overheating issues
  • Clutch is smooth and gearbox operation crisp, we are told 
  • Vendor states that brakes are smooth and pull in a straight line
  • The car runs and drives very well, starts easily, is great fun and has been very reliable
