The Appeal

What’s the most influential car of all time? It’s probably the Citroên DS, which is quite remarkable when you consider that it was first introduced in 1955. With space-age styling and a complex hydropneumatic hydraulic system controlling a number of key functions, the DS innovated on more levels than we can mention, and so the opportunity to own one simply can’t be refused.
This 1970 Citroên DS 21 Pallas IE is particularly fine. Firstly, it boasts a very high specification with the highest trim level available and with fuel injection. Secondly, the vendor has subjected it to a sympathetic restoration that respects its commendable levels of originality.
Thoroughly sorted both mechanically and cosmetically this charming DS is ready to be enjoyed.

The History and Paperwork

  • Originally supplied to the Netherlands
  • We’re informed that it stood for a few years prior to the vendor acquiring it in 2016
  • Now conservatively restored and preserved in readiness for its next owner
  • The vendor has returned the car to its original colour

The Interior

  • Original and carefully preserved red Jersey interior
  • Plush Pallas specification
  • The seats all look to be in fantastic order, with minimal wear
  • No excessive abrasions to the carpeting
  • Original door cards all in good order
  • The vendor has replaced the headlining and the C pillar trims
  • No modifications apparent
  • Period-correct stereo located on the passenger side
  • All original controls in lovely condition with minimal wear
  • The instruments and switches all present well and read clearly 
  • The door handles and window crank handles were rechromed

The Exterior 

  • Returned to its original red colour, although the roof remains grey adding a nice contrast
  • No notable paint blemishes
  • Some bodywork repairs were carried out during the restoration
  • No immensely straight and free from any signs of excessive corrosion
  • All exterior trim including the bumpers appears in fine fettle
  • We’re informed that the underside presents very well
  • Period accessory bonnet handle fitted

The Mechanics 

  • 2.1-litre four-cylinder petrol engine
  • Fuel injected
  • Front-wheel drive
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • Two of the suspension balls have been replaced as have the the electronic control unit, the fuel pump, the spark plugs and the battery
  • The vendor has adjusted / fine-tuned the action of the suspension at start-up as well as of the fuel supply
  • The compression has been checked and is apparently excellent across all cylinders
  • The vendor reports that it runs impeccably and is ready to drive
