The Appeal

Straight six open top splendour. The Triumph TR6 was arguably the best of the bunch when looking at the TR lineup. The British roadster scene was becoming somewhat scarce by the time the TR6 arrived on the scene but it did an excellent job of reminding buyers that there was still an option for a good quality traditional British roadster, and as such is often seen to be one of the last of its kind, with the later TR7 and TR8 moving away from the traditional roadster ideals.

The TR6 today is seen as a highly collectible slice of Triumph excellence, the poster child at the time, the TR6 sings of times when the marque dominated the industry and as such demand has always been consistently high. A genuine RHD example rather than the more commonly emerging LHD US imports, WGK 560M is a good performer from a mechanical standpoint and thoroughly looks the part in its dark green colour scheme. Certainly for the discerning buyer, this one ticks all of the boxes and stands as a great way into the rewarding world of TR6 ownership.

The History and Paperwork

First registered 14/03/1974
We understand this to be an older restoration car, which looks to have been performed by a previous owner to an exceptionally high standard
There is an accompanying photo album documenting the body off restoration in impressive detail
TR6 workshop manual and handbook present with the vehicle
Solid collection of invoices for parts bought and maintenance work undertaken throughout the car’s lifetime
Extensive set of previous MOT certificates present
Both tax and MOT exempt due to the car’s age and historic status
Despite the car’s MOT exemption the TR6 holds a current MOT valid with no advisories until October 2023

The Interior

Exceptionally well presented, vastly original interior space boasting neat black upholstery and wood finish trim
The cabin looks likely to have been refinished or restored, standing today in excellent order
Quality black sports style seating, presenting in a like new state, with strong cushioning and bolsters
Well upholstered black door panels with neat chrome embellishments
Curved black dash panel in fine fettle with wood finish centre insert
Three spoke Triumph steering wheel in great clean form
Gauges are all of a wonderful standard and come neatly decorated with chrome trim rings
Quality black carpeting throughout
Kenwood radio head unit and cassette player with aftermarket speakers in the drivers footwell
Interior switchgear is of a marvellous quality boasting quality graphics and limited signs of use or age
Good sized rear boot area, in neat clean order

The Exterior

Excellent exterior styling executed by German outfit Karmann
Finished in a deep green hue, arguably the perfect colour choice for a classic British roadster
Paintwork is of a marvellous quality, exhibiting a quality shine and very little, if anything in the way of age related marking or patina
Chrome trim and mouldings are in excellent form and lack the often found heavy pitting or patina seen on cars of this age
Retractable soft top roof finished in a contrasting black
The roof itself is in fine form and unlatches and operates smoothly and with ease
A matching black tonneau cover accompanies the car and can be put over the folded down roof section
Four brilliant silver deep dish TR6 steel wheels reside at ground level, in great presentable form
Panel gaps appear straight and consistent across the bodywork
Glass work is of a good clean standard

The Mechanics

Quality 2.5 litre straight six engine, one of the most revered engines of the era
Working overdrive
As we understand this was originally a petrol injection (PI) TR6 but it is now running on a triple Weber carb setup
The engine and surrounding engine bay are in impressively clean order and have clearly been upheld to a high standard
On a 2021 dyno run the car was reported to be running at around 119 BHP at the engine
The TR6 fires into life well and in no time settles in to a comfortable idle
Crisp gear changes are provided from the manual transmission, alongside impressive power delivery from the six cylinder unit
Underneath looks to be in good solid form upon inspection

Summary

With its Karmann styling and wonderful straight six driveline, the Triumph TR6 should be seen as a highly significant car both in the history of Triumph and the British automotive industry in general. An iconic British classic, certainly one of the last of its kind and a truly wonderful nod to the impeccable British roadster.

This 1974 RHD example is undeniably a good one and has clearly seen some high quality restoration and mechanical work throughout the years, which has put it in good stead to be the pride of place in a new loving owners collection.
