The Appeal 

A good TR6 must rank as one of the best real-world sports cars of the last 50 years. Torquey 2.5L straight six, direct and engaging roadholding and svelte lines make these grunty two seaters perennially popular with enthusiasts.
This car was subject to what the seller describes as a ‘nut and bolt’ restoration over ten years between 1991 and 2001. The work covered the bodywork, paintwork, trim and a full engine and gearbox rebuild. Refinished in popular red, it has been very sparingly used in the intervening years as part of the seller’s extensive classic car collection. That care has kept the car in quite remarkable condition. 
As an original UK-market TR6 this car left the factory as a 150bhp ‘PI’ model. It has been wisely upgraded to a triple Weber set up, an arrangement that adds reliability and more power. Said to drive ‘tremendously well’ it is clearly a well sorted car that goes as well as it looks. 

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered 1st March 1975 
  • Nine registered keepers 
  • Current keeper since October 2012
  • Used very sparingly as part of a classic car collection 
  • Previously painted mauve and refinished in red in January 1998 
  • Restored between 1991 and 2001 according to the current keeper 
  • Stored in a heated garage during seller’s tenure and used for summer days 
  • MOT history supports this showing little use since the last MOT expired in July 2019 
  • Photographic record of restoration reported to be with car 
  • Restoration covered bodywork, paintwork, trim, veneers, engine and gearbox rebuilds 

The Condition

  • Older restoration in red with sparing use ensuring well-preserved condition 
  • Paintwork presents well with consistent, bright finish and only light signs of use
  • A very small number of stone chips visible to front but not immediately noticeable 
  • Bodywork in good order with only minor points to note in photographs 
  • These include light bubbling to the base of driver’s door and bonnet top 
  • Chassis restored during the restoration process and refinished in black paint 
  • Underside reported to have ‘no rust’ according to seller 
  • Black vinyl roof in good condition with clear rear screen and good fit 
  • Sits on Wolfrace-style, TR6-branded alloys showing good condition 
  • Retrimmed and refurbished interior with black vinyl seats and fabric carpets 
  • Dashboard veneer refurbished during restoration process
  • Few signs of age inside vehicle but buyers should be realistic about condition based on the age of restoration and usage

The Mechanics 

  • CC150E engine number 2,498cc straight six Triumph 
  • 4spd manual gearbox with working overdrive on 3rd and 4th 
  • Converted from fuel injection to triple Weber specification at cost of £3,000 
  • Vendor reports that the car is quicker than a standard ‘PI’ 150bhp model 
  • New battery fitted in 2023
  • New wiring loom fitted
  • Full restoration over ten years completed in 2001 with few miles since completion 
  • Used sparingly by current keeper since engine and gearbox rebuild 
  • Very tidy engine bay as shown in photographs 
  • No reported running or driving issues
The vendor tells us: 
“It needs nothing done now and looks and drives tremendously well. It has had the very desirable triple Weber conversion. This cost about £3,000 and is much more reliable. It gives a huge boost to performance compared with the standard fuel injection system. This is a very quick TR6 and leaves others way behind on a sprint to 60mph. 
“Fantastic car to drive. A very fast and good-handling car. Brakes are excellent and pull up straight and strong. I love the fact that it has been refurbished to a high standard. I have driven it in convoy with other TR6s and this car always out-accelerates them. A well-sorted and beautiful car.”
