The Appeal

Honda’s Gold Wing was a big, powerful and relaxing touring bike. It was also an all-out assault on the home of such bikes: the USA. Conceived as a range flagship, it featured a clever flat-four water-cooled boxer engine designed by Honda engine guru, Shoichiro Irimajin. His previous work was the engines for the firm’s MotoGP bikes and Formula One cars. 
That blue chip input showed. The Gold Wing was innovative, supremely comfortable and very quick. The K2 of 1977 saw some revisions, but they were only light because nothing needed to fundamentally change. 
This K2 was first registered in 1976 in the USA and arrived in the UK in 2020. It has been extensively restored to a very high standard. Since completion it has largely been part of large collections, including the current keeper’s, so the condition has been carefully preserved. 
As you can see from the photos, it is a magnificent bike. The blue metallic paintwork and signature gold pinstripe present well and the chromework is bright. The bike has been lightly recommissioned for sale and is said to run and ride well.

The Condition

  • Very tidy blue metallic paintwork with gold pinstripe 
  • Tank and paintwork are in good condition as shown 
  • Chromework presents well with bright finish 
  • Switchgear, dials, grips and other fittings in good order as shown 
  • Some pitting on the front mudguard that is barely noticeable 
  • Rev counter works slowly likely due to oil filled cable 
  • Otherwise we understand everything works and runs correctly 

The Mechanics

  • 999cc flat four 4-stroke engine with shaft drive 
  • 5spd manual transmission 
  • Recently recommissioned with new fuel
  • Cam belt, water pump, and pulleys replaced some years ago
  • Bike has been little used since this work was completed
  • No reported running or riding issues
  • Vendor reports that it starts and runs very well
