The Appeal
The BMW 318i Baur TC2 is a unique and rare find, especially in the UK - with 1,806 supplied to the British market. When the E30 was originally launched, it came in two styles - a two-door and a four-door saloon shell. While BMW had no plans to make one themselves, they were well aware that the market wanted a cabriolet. As a result, they reached out to long-time collaborators Korsserie Baur, who offered a folding, two-stage canvas roof - much as they had with the earlier E21 TC or Top Cabriolet. The Baur E30, as a result, became the TC2.
This 318i has been kept in dry storage in recent years and has recently undergone a mechanical re-commissioning. It comes with a large folder of service history, including a fully stamped service book, invoices, and MOT certificates. The car also features a factory-fitted "M Technic" bodykit and M Sport Seats.
History and Paperwork
Manufactured in 1987 and supplied new through SMB of Exeter on 1st August 1987
Five former registered keepers, with the current owner having the car since May 2023
Underwent thorough recommissioning upon purchase
Comes with a decent amount of paperwork including the current V5 and the original service book
The service book features 23 service stamps all from SMB of Exeter
The most recent service stamp is from 1999 at 86,928 miles

Fitted with an official BMW M-Technic body kit
This comprises ribbed side skirts, a boot lip spoiler and a deeper chin spoiler

Roof parts in blue fabric and in good condition with no rips or tears
Underside is solid
Interior features the less common Uberkaro plaid fabric upholstery in good condition
Small hole noted in the passenger seat bolster
Door cards and rear panels finished in panelled blue vinyl
Dashboard in black vinyl appears to be in fine condition
Original four spoke BMW steering wheel fitted
The Mechanics
Based on the 318i version of the E30 and fitted with the 1,766cc M40 engine
Power fed to the rear wheels via a five-speed Getrag 240 gearbox
Under-bonnet condition is in fine fettle with light age-commensurate wear
Battery looks to be quite a recent fitment
No visible rust and the suspension turrets look very solid
Around £2,000-£3,000 spent on getting the car roadworthy
