The Appeal
Puede ser una exageración decir que el XJS salvó a Jaguar, pero no lo es decir que este impresionante gran turismo ayudó a dar la vuelta a la suerte de la empresa. Este XJS en particular fue de los últimos modelos fabricados, llevando el nombre Celebration en honor al 60.º aniversario de Jaguar. Un modelo de volante a la izquierda, fue inicialmente exportado a Bélgica antes de regresar a casa menos de dos años después. Se especificó en plata con tapicería de cuero y moquetas a juego, intercaladas con toques de acabado en madera de nogal. Las llantas de aleación son todas originales y calzadas con neumáticos Pirelli, mientras que el techo de tela parece estar en buen estado, y el propietario afirma que la pintura no requiere trabajo de reparación.
The cabin oozes class, with a half-timbered steering wheel mirroring the swathes of walnut extending across the dash, lower console and transmission tunnel. Other retained period features include an LCD trip computer and Jaguar-branded radio cassette player, while there’s an enduring novelty value in seeing a speedo calibrated to 260 – even if it is measuring kilometres rather than miles per hour. Other idiosyncrasies include a handbrake mounted by the door and those diminutive horn buttons, though these design elements add to the XJS’s character rather than detracting from it.
