The Appeal
It’s a simple idea that is almost as old as the car itself: get a big engine, put it in a regular saloon car. Result? Something quite special. That’s certainly the case when the firm involved is Jaguar and the engine is the firm’s highly regarded supercharged 4.2L V8, good for 400bhp.
The S-Type received the super saloon treatment early in its life, but less than 1,500 R models found lucky buyers. Today they are well regarded and worth seeking out because you get classic Jaguar aesthetics, the firm’s usual regard for luxury and aesthetics and, of course, viscerally quick performance.
The key when buying one is maintenance, which is where this black S-Type R scores. It comes to market with full service history showing 16 stamps and further invoices for work. It has covered only 2,000 miles since the last work. Recent work has included replacing both sills, four new Lambda sensors and a new battery.
The car has been carefully checked over by a Jaguar specialist and given a clean bill of health. The MOT inspector agreed - it carries advisory-free MOT to February 2026.
The S-Type R is the refined alternative to more common super saloons. Don’t miss this one.
The vendor says:
“An exceptionally quick car which is in good condition for its age, its all about the engine with this car and its still pulling strongly and when you hit the accelerator pedal you just take off. Many smiles per gallon.”
