The Appeal
The original Discovery was a very clever idea. Blending Range Rover underpinnings for on-road comfort with a rugged, no-nonsense aesthetic borrowed from the Defender, it quickly found a loyal customer base.
The Discovery II didn’t mess with a winning formula, concentrating on improving quality, updating the looks and the arrival of the well-regarded TD5 2.5L 5-cylinder turbodiesel engine.
It is rare to find a factory-standard, highly preserved survivor like this one. Smartly finished in mid-blue metallic with a hardwearing grey fabric cabin, it has clearly led an easy life and been looked after.
Key to any Discovery purchase is to check the chassis. The long, advisory-free MOT confirms that all is in order. It is said to have received £3,000 of recent work, notably including a new clutch assembly.
It is currently part of a Land Rover collection and only released for sale due to storage issues. That creates a good opportunity for a 4x4 enthusiast to acquire a very decent Disco.
