Volkswagen 1500S Notchback
The car was restored to its current state between 1991-1992. It was in very good condition at the time of the discovery, only 1-2 small rust parts were found in the interior of the mudguards. Otherwise, the car is not welded. After that, the car got painted to match the 1960s rally cars.
Replica as driven by well known Pauli Toivonen and Antti Aarnio-Wihuri.
A museum vehicle registration was awarded in 1992 in Finland.
In 1990, the car took part in three local events.
In 1998, it attended 1000 Lakes historic Rally as a 000 car.
In 2000, the car attended 1000 Lakes historic Rally as a number 50. Prior to that a complete safety roll gage was fitted
Before it had a so-called " semi-gage”. At that time the car also had modern cup-seats and 6-point seat belts. FIA-passport was also valid at that time. However, the competition ended with a fault in technics.
In the early 2000, the owner decided to continue historic rallying with his second car. This car was just a little too fine and well-bodied to carry on rallying. The owner decided to return this car back to the to the 60's rally car, eg a full-length bumper.
In the 21st century, the car has been more in exhibitions than driving (Vaasa Automotive and Motor Museum, the Lahti Classic Motor Show, and the long-standing rallymuseum at Kangasala Mobilia).
It has always been well maintained and serviced regularly.
I don’t have any accurate specification on the engine and gearbox, but they are not standard.
From what I have been informed and see myself, the engine is not standard and the gearbox is close ratio.
