Extra spicy Cayman R with an interesting history.
Not content with the genuine bragging rights of being an original Porsche Cars GB Press Vehicle, this is an R with a lot to shout about.
In January 2022, thousands of pounds were invested in significant upgrades, boosting this already very capable Porsche to the next level of performance.
Highlights include:
* Bosch competition plenum and throttle body.
* Sachs clutch and lightweight flywheel.
* Uprated gearbox mounts.
* Carnewal exhaust header.
* Live mapping by DMS Automotive, with a dyno read out suggesting 357. 6 hp.
* GT3 brake master cylinder and control arms (fitted March 2021).
* Driver’s side Schroth harness and harness bar.
First registered in March 2011, which is early in the Cayman R story, enabling it to fulfil its Launch Car duties. It has the unusual chassis marking combination of a ‘C’ 2012 model with ‘U’ Valmet Production. It left the factory with Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), Bi Xenons with Dynamic Cornering Lights, a short shifter and a Sports exhaust system.
In this case, the Peridot metallic paint, which came to be the Cayman R’s launch colour, is listed on the build sheet as ‘Z’ order; option L999 Colour-to-Sample.
It has all the other expected ‘R’ equipment; a limited slip diff, tweaked and lowered suspension, lightweight 19 inch Boxster Spyder alloy wheels, Aerokit with fixed rear spoiler, and black exterior detailing. Inside, Peridot highlights contrast with full, black leather, plus Sports Bucket seats trimmed in Alcantara, but WITHOUT air conditioning or a radio - lighter is better!
It spent the first 18 months and 13, 000 miles of its career satisfying the needs of the motoring press; reviews, test drives, photo shoots and video jollies. Appearing in, amongst other things, a Top Gear episode in the hands of Richard Hammond, and an Evo review, with Chris Harris behind the wheel.
Retiring from official assignments in November 2012, with 5 private owners since. Serviced to schedule, with stamps in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and, most recently, with us here at Williams Crawford, in May 2023 (including spark plug replacement).
