Motodrome offer for sale this nicely-patinated 1966 registered example of the ever-popular Land Rover Series II, this one an 88in petrol truck cab with tilt, in Bronze Green.
Probably the prettiest Series IIa configuration!
This one has likely led a very interesting life. Whilst first civilian-registered in 1966, it’s actually a Series II not IIa, which from the chassis number was built in 1961. Whilst we have no documentation to confirm, it’s likely it was an MoD vehicle for it’s first five years – it still retains it’s military-spec headlight surrounds, light switch, and leather swivel gaiters.
The massive Land Rover branded winch mounted on the front (which may be quite rare as I’ve never seen one like it before) plus the provision for air compression have probably been on it from new. Why it was configured as such remains a mystery. If anyone can enlighten us, I’d be happy to hear from you.
It comes with the trailer shown in some of the pictures. However if the trailer isn’t required then deduct £1000. 00 from the price.
It runs a 151-prefix 2. 25 petrol motor (with Weber carburettor), which is period correct for a1961 build and is probably the original.
Specification-wise it retains it’s early features such as deep sill covers, sprung steering wheel, and short handbrake lever.
Externally it’s fitted with galvanised front bumper, a matching set of tyres, spare wheel bonnet mount, Exmoor Trim rear tilt, rear recovery rings, rear mudflaps and NATO towhook
Internally it has inertia reel seatbelts, 3 Exmoor Trim deluxe seats, hand throttle control, and period aftermarket oil pressure and water temperature gauges. In the load area there are twin bench seats.
Odometer reading 47000 miles. The last owner spent a small fortune on it in Autumn 2021 having the engine removed to replace the rear main oil seal, a new stainless exhaust, new radiator, and a full service. It comes with a sheaf of bills and old MOT’s etc, and I can confirm it drives really nicely.
