The Appeal
If this Series II Interceptor looks familiar, then we suspect you’re either an avid reader of the excellent Practical Classics magazine or a visitor to the NEC Classic Car and Restoration Show. This car was owned by the magazine’s roving editor, Danny Hopkins, between 2010 and 2022 and featured on the magazine’s show stand and within its pages several times.
It is one of just 694 RHD Series II cars and reportedly the 16th from last car built. Just 103 Series II cars were painted in this one’s Reef Blue, the colour chosen by its illustrious first keeper, Sir Hugh Fraser, the Chairman of House of Fraser department stores. He reportedly used it to commute between his estate in Scotland and Harrods, which his firm then owned. The previous keeper has spoken to his chauffeur, mechanic and friends to discover more about this fascinating period.
The vendor acquired the car in 2022 from Danny Hopkins and has invested considerably in completing the car’s restoration. The whole renovation process has included bare metal respray, engine rebuild, rewiring and installing FenAir air conditioning. The work is underlined by a voluntary current MOT, which runs to July 2026 with no advisories.
This 1971 example is one of the best-known Interceptors in the world. Much-historied and in the sort of condition you’d expect after all that work, it is a unique opportunity for marque and grand tourer enthusiasts.
The vendor says:
“The car is an effortless cruiser. Just as happy eating up the miles on a long road trip as it is pottering to a local show. It never fails to draw attention and has never let me down.”
