Description
A 1947 Chevrolet Stylemaster 2 Door Town Sedan, seating for 5 with front and rear bench seats, split folding front bench.
Running a 235cui in-line 6 cylinder with twin Weber carburettors with original Offenhauser manifold and Fenton split exhaust headers. A “3 on the tree” vacuum assisted manual gearbox. Recently rolling road tested and tuned. Coupled with a custom made dual stainless steel exhaust system recently updated to include new hangers and silencer.
Previously used as a successful wedding car by the previous owner and has also appeared in Practical Classics magazine back in 1997, now recently undergone a mechanical overhaul on various items at HPC Classics.
All oils and brake fluid replaced, new brake hoses, new throttle linkage system, new torque tube seals and fitment of Oakie bushing, gearbox and engine mount replaced, new spark plugs, old electric fuel pump replaced with a Holley pump and relocated plus more. Invoices going back to when the car arrived in the UK.
Other, earlier modifications include an updated fuel tank with larger capacity, dropped front spindles and lowering blocks at rear making the car sit around 2. 5 inches lower. Pete and Jake telescopic shocks incorporated into the front and air shocks supplement the rear suspension. A 12 volt conversion was carried out by the previous owner as well, this included adding an alternator and 12v electric windscreen wipers. The 3 speed manual gearbox having been rebuilt circa 2019.
The interior was reupholstered around 2021 also by the previous owner and is in very good condition with a rear back bench seat including 2 colour coordinated cushions! Has a split folding front bench seat.
Recently had the front tie rods and tie rod ends all replaced and aligned with the steering box readjusted, again thanks to HPC Classics. It now sits on four brand new Maxxis with 33mm white sidewalls. In 2011 the car had a full body restoration. Any bodywork needing repair and rust treatment was carried out, then a bare metal respray using Pembroke Coral and Nissan Greyish Yellow, (cream or beige with pink to others!). There is an illustrated book and other documentation on the rebuild of the bodywork. The body work, paint and chrome are in very good condition. After so many years there are a few minor marks as you would expect with the use of the car since.
The Chevy was imported from the USA to the UK at the end of 1992 and has 2 previous owners before I purchased it last year making me the 3rd owner since then. The car is a historic vehicle so is exempt from MOT, and road tax. I’m selling due to another project arriving.
What would be on my to do list, check the function of the fuel gauge as it’s currently not working even after fitting a 12v to 6v regulator. The gauge may need replacing or refurbishing?
DakotaDigital do a complete Stylemaster gauge replacement kit including the clock which would be a great looking feature. The odometer appears to be not running correctly after 75 years so I really do not know what the actual mileage would be. It is currently indicating at 69910 on the last invoice. The speedometer is working but could actually do with checking/ replacing for the same reason as above, it’s 75 years old too. Remedy the front left corner of the sill as after the full body restoration 12 years ago is now needing some additional attention and minor work to make perfect again.
It still has its original radio in situ which I believe was converted to 12 volts but it is now not working. There is a mark on the rear parcel shelf with a Velcro strip over it, presumably to hold in place items at some point in the past.
Great bodywork though overall and a solid chassis, which can always be improved upon over time. The next owner may wish to refresh the underbody stone guard paint treatment at some stage in the future. Overall a very presentable and smart looking 75 year old Chevrolet that can be taken to a show or used again for weddings or even TV and film work should you wish to!
The Stylemaster comes with a set of rear fender skirts (not fitted in the photos, colour matched with the main bodywork), 2 spare leaf springs, documentation and 2 keys.
