SUNBEAM TIGER 1a
Having brought this lovely car up to an excellent spec I now need to sell the Tiger to create space for another classic is losing its garaging elsewhere.
Tigers were built to service the US market , with few sold in the UK. They were successful in racing but especially in drag racing, the engine being easily tuned. This car was sold in Germany, probably to a US serviceman. In the 1980s it was imported into the UK by a prominent member of the Sunbeam Tiger Owners Club. As well as the conversion to RHD it acquired the 4. 7 litre (289 cu in) of Mark 2, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. It was also repainted its original dark blue and had twin Kenlowe fans fitted. The bonnet gained a LAT style scoop to aid cooling. It has certification from STOC as a genuine Tiger. Since that date carburation was upgraded by fitting a 4-barrel Holley carb instead of the standard 2-barrel item. Power will be in excess of the standard 289 cars 200bhp as a result of the carburation and exhaust upgrades. Since my ownership an Edelbrock fuel pump greatly improved running. Books on the evolution of the Tiger reveal that the works wanted to use 15-inch wheels and adequate brakes, but did not get permission to add cost!
The car has only 28372 miles on the clock which I believe to be genuine since it had only a few hundred miles between MOTs for many years. It has always been with a STOC member.
I have upgraded the car with completely new braking system including BCC dual calliper brakes.
The fuel system is also new , the tanks having been stripped and resealed .
The wheels are brand new original minilites; the proper 15inch size shod with brand new Yokohama Advan tyres.
In the cabin I fitted a new Moto Lita steering wheel with matching gear knob.
