Description
A very original and unmolested 1956 Sunbeam MKIII (Mk 3) for sale in 2 tone blue. Comes with it's original column gear shift and a surprisingly pokey 2267 cc which is an absolute pleasure to drive. This particular vehicle was part of the Springer Sister Classic car collection and was housed in their Museum for some time. This car has been stored indoor and improved along the way. Has been regularly serviced and maintained. I haven't driven it in a long time so minor brake recommission recommended for the new owner. Lack of space forces sale otherwise would have kept. I will try to do a walk around video for prospective buyers.
The car is in good working condition and starts on the button. The engine purrs away effortlessly and the driving experience is excellent. The paintwork is quite flat and i haven't polished it although it would come up nicely if it was polished. My plan was to keep it patinated and add some Monte Carlo race bits to it as it is a similar colour to the Monte Carlo winner from the 1955 Monte Carlo Rally. Sunbeam was driven by Stirling Moss, Desmond Scannell and John Cooper to take second place in the 1952 Monte Carlo Rally.[12]
A Sunbeam Mk III was outright winner of the 1955 Monte Carlo Rally.
In the Alpine Rally, Stirling Moss won a 'Coupe d'Or' (Gold cup) for three consecutive penalty-free runs in 1952, 1953 and 1954. The first in a Sunbeam-Talbot 90 Mk II and the latter two in the Sunbeam Alpine derivative. The Sunbeam-Talbot team of Mk IIs won the team prize in 1952.[13]
A Mk III was the first car driven competitively by Jim Clark in driving tests and sprints around the Borders area of southern Scotland where he lived. Clark went on to become twice Formula 1 World Champion before being killed in a Formula 2 Race at Hockenheim in 1968. He is revered as being one of the best racing drivers of all time.
