Mechanically sorted, virtually unmodified and relatively low-milage oak green Golf GTI 16V for sale.
It is standard specification with the exception of uprated Eibach anti-roll bars front and back (original ones included in sale), and larger front brakes from the supercharged G60 model (280mm rather than standard 256mm from memory). Suspension, exhaust and interior are all otherwise as they should be.
Mechanically it runs very well. The engine is sweet, quiet and powerful. It was serviced last autumn when the rear trailing arm bushes and brake fluid were replaced and the belts were all checked. Always starts first time - even after sitting for up to two years - and doesn't burn any oil.
The four tyres are all nearly new and the gearbox is smooth to operate with no syncromesh issues on any gear.
The interior is tidy and there is only some very slight damage to the driver's seat bolster. The headlining is unblemished and unsagging. A previous owner put some larger speakers in the parcel shelf; its not what I would have done, but they are quite discreetly covered by a piece of carpet so I never got round to removing them. The original Blaupunkt radio works, but doesn't get the best FM reception if I am honest. All functions of the MFA digital display on the dashboard work correctly. The car also has a rare G60 leather rimed steering wheel option which is infinitely nicer than the plastic/ foam standard wheel. One small issue is that the speedometer over-reads by 10mph throughout its range. I don't know why; it was like that when I bought it but it is consistently over by the same amount which makes it easy to live with.
All of the electrics work including the front power windows.
Externally the car presents well. It is over 30 years old and is in 'unrestored' condition. There are a number of small dents and car park dings as you would expect for the age. The sunroof operates correctly and doesn't leak. The chassis is absolutely solid and in great condition. There is only one spot of rust which has recently appeared on the bottom of the driver's door; it would not be hard to treat. Although not perfect, I would say the bodywork still looks smart.
The black plastic trim is all original and in excellent condition (there is dust on the rear bumper in the photos - it is not sunfaded). I had the BBS alloys restored about ten years ago and they are still looking great.
Only ever run on super unleaded and taken off the road during the winter months. Dry stored in my garage.
Lots of service history and it has never wanted for any thing during my ownership of 14 years.
