Description
I am selling my beautiful 1995 UK Spec Mitsubishi 3000GT Twin Turbo. I bought this car in April 2020 during lockdown after always being a 90s Jap car fan and wanted an original unmolested UK car ideally facelift as I prefer the look and the glass sunroof which is a rare combination. This has the 5 speed manual gearbox. These cars can be complicated and there were a number of small electrical niggles that I set about fixing (active aero not working etc). MOT until Aug 2023. Current mileage 87600, may go up slightly.
I am the 7th owner and the car came with little to no service history although there were a number of service stickers from Mitsubishi Bristol from 1998 onwards. I have subsequently spoken to the 5th owner who had it from around 1998 to 2015 and he has confirmed the car was well cared for during his ownership that is reflected in its originality as he always had it serviced by Mitsubishi Cheltenham before passing it to his son. It is HPI clear and I have the V5 in my name.
This is not the usual 3000GT that you will see, I have set about enjoying the car and making sure all the mechanical maintenance has been completed correctly by my local Mitsubishi dealer with their master technician of over 25 years experience being the only person to work on it. I have invoices for all the work and have summarised the main areas below, all parts are OEM or equivalent using the well respected Evil Empire to source any parts that Mitsubishi could not:
May - July 2020 76k miles £4537. 81 - the car was kept by Mitsubishi Maidenhead for 6 weeks and throughly gone through including:
- new timing and auxiliary belts / new water pump
- new valve lifters to cure the lifter tick
- replacement oem oil cooler and pipes
- new valve cover gaskets
- new spark plugs
- new clutch
- new ac condensor
- new front brake discs and pads
- 4wd transfer box renewed - new 25 input spline as original was found to have wear / seals replaced
- new front exhaust pipe
- new steering rack gaitor
- plus full service
August 2020 - new air con condenser fitted (OEM part sourced from USA) - cost of part plus fitting over £700
March 2021 - new radiator
Nov 2021 - 83190 miles - full service Mitsubishi - all fluids replaced - £582. 33
Oct 2022 - 85951 miles - full service by Mitsubishi incl brake fluid change / new propshaft centre bearings / front suspension drop link changed - £802. 20
Bodywork
- The wasn't in bad condition when I got it, but the bumpers and other plastic parts were tired. I have had these professionally resprayed by a Classic Car restorer as well as the spoiler. There was some minor rust bubbles on the front wheel arch as well as the usual stone chips on the bonnet so the front end was resprayed at the same time the rust was treated. The car has been professionally detailed and paint corrected as well as custom installed (as there are no template patterns) front clear Xpel PPF undertaken to protect from stone chips and the car looks fantastic as per pics. It's also been ceramic coated and only ever washed meticulously by myself.
- There were some previous MOT advisories for surface corrosion underneath so the bodyshop cleaned it and wax oiled it, pics included of underneath and clean MOT passes since.
Interior
- The seats have been sympathetically improved as their driver's seat bolster was worn so both front seats were sent to a leather repair specialist along with the steering wheel and recoloured.
- I have fitted a modern head unit with apple car play
- The interior is in very good overall condition including door cards, switches and carpets.
- The electrics work as they should including the active aero and the air con is ice cold
- I have also replaced the speakers behind the stock grills
- I have the original sunroof sun cover too in tan.
You will see the MOT history since 2020 are clean passes with 1 advisory in 2020 of a suspension ball just dust cover that has been replaced.
Many other parts refreshed including:
New Cat 1 alarm
New OEM sunroof hinges from 3SX performance
New Windscreen
New Battery
New door plastic trims
4 new Continental tyres were also fitted last year that have 6mm plus tread left and the wheels have been properly refinished with new centre caps.
The car runs and idles smoothly with no smoke, the gearbox is smooth and even the electronic suspension remains installed and working with Tour and Sports modes. The 3000GT was a poster boy car for me. I have driven this car as a daily a lot of the time including longer distances and it is an effortless cruiser. Combined with 4wd, the power delivery and all weather ability makes it feel as modern today as it did in 1995. These cars are perhaps unappreciated but I sold my mk4 Supra Manual when this car came along as I much prefer the 3000GT. To have the opportunity to obtain a low mileage UK car in original condition and in such good mechanical and bodywork condition is perhaps an opportunity that may not be repeated.
There were never many UK cars sold, there can only be a handful left and I would strongly doubt any as nice as this and the price reflects that. I am happy to answer sensible enquiries from serious buyers. As per normal boring advert stuff, no test pilots / bringing 6 friends to see it/ half price cash offers today etc.
My reason for sale is that there are other 90s jap cars and I would like to own so I am happy for someone else to enjoy such a wonderful car.
