I bought this BSA A65 StarTwin 650cc late last year after spending a long time in a coma. I have now come to the realisation that I cannot complete the sympathetic restoration I intended to as recovery is a slow process.
The bike (until I purchased it) had sat in a shed since 1978 and not moved. It has all the original parts as far as I can see. The motor will need a rebuild but runs albeit lumpy. I have just had all the electrics put straight and repaired by BritSteel Classics in Dover, lights, horn, brake light etc works perfectly. it still runs the original 6v system. While they worked on it the carb was cleaned and a proper non return valve fitted so that it no longer wet sumps while standing.
Wheels are rusty but solid,. not rotten through. It has wonderful patina and would make a lovely original bike. Tyres are good and has had new fuel taps and pear shape badges fitted. Full V5 in my name. currently SORN on gov website. Everything included as original parts, tin side panels, tank chrome strips, rubber bug etc. I would love to keep it but it'll just sit in the shed so I am moving it on so somebody can use it. All I ask is that you send a couple of photos when done. I never intended to wash its history away but if shiny is your thing, go ahead. It has three fixings where we think a sidecar was once attached also. If you're looking for an honest British BSA restoration project then you could do far worse than my ole A65.
