An unbelievable example of this load lugging, mile eating classic.
I searched high and low for the best 740 I could find and wasted a lot of time, energy and money viewing over-described tarted up, tired cars.
There's a lot of high mileage, multi-owners 740's riddled with dings and dents out there.
This car is on another planet.
It's the holy grail.
The best colour, dark metallic grey.
Spotless upholstery that defies the fact it's 33 years old.
No dings or dents with arrow straight panels.
Just the odd mark where there was a roof rack and some stone chips.
The coachwork really is that good.
You can't beat original paint for it's depth and shine.
This car doesn't creak or rattle.
It's dead tight and is a joy to drive.
It cruises and sits nice and square.
No sagging suspension.
Tow bar and rare rear valence included
Owned for virtually all it's life by a wealthy family from Hampstead, it's been loved and cared for with passion and enthusiasm.
There's a service book with several stamps and a stack of invoices and receipts.
That said the car speaks for itself.
The load area cover is original and perfect.
When did you last see one of these cars with it's original load area cover ?
The rear door struts are strong and tight, unlike so many that fall shut.
The 4 rigid rubber floor mats came with the car 33 years ago and they're still there doing their job.
The carpets are lovely.
The seats / upholstery are pretty much "as new" with no tears.
No cracking on the dash or doors.
The original plastic is all there and in place.
Fabric seats are much better than leather in these cars.
They are large and very comfy.
Leather gets brittle and cracks.
Mechanically A1 throughout with lovely, fluid gear changes.
It runs quietly and smoothly.
Recent cambelt.
On a recent 526 mile drive from Glasgow to Rye this car averaged over 30mpg at 70mph.
Without doubt one of the finest.
This is an unexpected private sale by me, the owner.

Having inherited a 760 Turbo a few years ago I fell in love with this shape and model.
The turbo 740 isn't much quicker off the mark than my car but is a serious gas guzzler.
I vowed not to get another.
The engine in the 740 is renowned as bullet proof and in my opinion is the wise choice as a daily driver.
