Mazda MX-5
One of 400 Final Edition Mk1 Berkeley.
A very nice example of a sports car icon, this 1997 Mazda MX-5 Berkeley Limited Edition is number 150 of 400 made. The car has covered just c. 48k miles from new and is in lovely original condition.
A first generation ‘NA’ variant of the MX-5, the car is powered by a 1. 8-litre four-cylinder engine paired with five-speed manual gearbox driving the rear wheels.
3 owners from new and the car has been extremely maintained and has been kept in dry storage over the winter months. The car runs and drives with no issues. It's rust free and benefits from a recently fitted replacement roof, coilover suspension and brand new restored leather seats as per the original colours.
The Limited-Edition Mazda MX-5 Berkeley was introduced right at the very end of the production of the MK1 and all cars were finished in Sparkle Green metallic paint.
The Berkeley Edition was based on the 1. 8i model and the lightweight 16v DOHC engine sits low and behind the front axle to offer a low centre of gravity and centralised weight distribution making the handling perfectly balanced and delightfully responsive. The engine bay is extremely clean and the phenomenal close ratio short throw gearbox provides light and precise gear changes.
Special features only for the Berkeley edition were 15-inch five-spoke alloy wheels with locking wheel nuts, Sparkle Green metallic paint, black and grey leather seats, and grey door panels with black stitching. There was also a Momo three-spoke leather steering wheel, black leather handbrake and gear lever gaiters, a polished stainless steel cabin brace bar, stainless steel sill plates, and a boot rack. Finally, a numbered plaque was applied to the centre console, and Berkeley badges to the exterior. These cars also benefitted from power steering.
