This car was originally supplied as a rolling chassis with a Standard Special engine to Coventry & Jeffs (who made lorry bodies) who made what was later described as 'concocted' DHC body. From 1965 to 2003 it was owned by an ex-WWII fighter pilot who remodelled the body to a 4 seater DHC, fitted a Triumph Dolomite engine, converted the brakes to hydraulics and fitted a plus 4 rear axle. (The engine was subsequently changed to a Ford 1500cc and again to a 1600cc crossflow).
When I obtained the car it was in a bit of a bodged state, so it was dismantled and rebuilt with a new chassis (from GEE), replaced the bulkhead and floorboards and woodwork where necessary, rewired using a correct loom and fitted a Triumph Herald 12/ 50 engine and gearbox (similar design and horsepower to the original).
Now four years later the car is a tidy little runaround but as I am approaching my 80th birthday I am not using it as much as it needs - I also have an MG as a regular car - so I have decided to sell. It is not a concours car and it is obviously not for the purists. There are a few spares - tyres, tubes, Stromberg carbs on an Alexander manifold, instruments etc.
The original reg was NAE 450 but this was transferred to a VW van in 2012. A photo of the car is featured in John Tipler's book 'The Cars & the Factory' but wrongly captioned as a 1939 model.
